A multi-award winning facility, the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) has earned a solid reputation as North America's leading Convention Centre, and has held over 18,000 events and hosted over 55 million guests since opening for business in October 1984.

Covering over 2 million square feet, the MTCC is Canada's largest convention facility, boasting seven exhibit halls, two large capacity ballrooms, and a beautiful 1,232 seat theatre among its many assets.

It also houses 70 fully furnished meeting rooms, and 167,000 square feet of beautifully decorated pre-function spaces.


The MTCC is conveniently connected to Toronto's Union Station railway and transit station through the Skywalk and is also accessible via the city's underground PATH system.

Job Description:


The role of a Food Expediter is to assist the kitchen and stewarding departments with the effective delivery of finished food as per event menu requirements.

Reporting to the Stewarding Supervisor/Manager, the expediter's main function is to arrange for and coordinate the transfer of food from the kitchen (Sous Chef) to the service floor (Banquet Manager) while ensuring the food quality is maintained and on time deliveries of the products, as well as any other duties as assigned.

The reliability of the job incumbent is critical to the success of the department and overall event experience at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Job Skills and Requirements


Leadership Skills:

Required to effectively lead a team of runners to ensure food is delivered in at timely manner.
Must maintain departmental quality and customer service standards.


Time Management:


Ensure efficient delivery of food for multiple events so that food quality is not compromised and correct food temperatures are maintained.

Must be punctual, as well as ensure timeliness of communication.


Accurate:

Must be detailed oriented and ensure accuracy of food and food item quantities.
Ensure that proper food handling and procedures are followed at all times consistent with Toronto Public Health standards.


Effective Communication:

Requires strong listening and communication when relating to the Sous Chef and Banquet Managers as per event requirements.
Ability to effectively transfer information between multiple departments in a timely manner.

Physical Requirements

Position will require the individual to be constantly on their feet working in a fast paced environment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.


Qualifications:

Experience working in the Food Service Industry (preferably within a Convention facility).
In-depth knowledge of current menus.
Food safe certification.
Thorough knowledge of correct sanitation procedures.
Certification on mobile electrical equipment (i.e. Electrical pump truck and tug motor).


As per the LiUNA Local 506 Collective Agreement, in order to maintain full-time status, once you have worked for a full calendar year, you will be required to have worked a minimum of 1,200 hours for that calendar year, and each subsequent calendar year, in order to maintain full-time status.
