  • As a District Technician, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance in the design and ongoing maintenance of the Mobility Data System. You will also provide technical support for the district's seasonal activities and programs. This includes the maintenance and safety of road rightsofway, which comprise of snow and ice control, street cleaning, public services and excavation permits.

Primary duties include:

  • Participate in projects by gaining an understanding of the scope, completing required research and data collection, and carrying the project through to the targeted completion.
  • Perform and report on various surveys including road conditioning surveys.
  • Update inventory data including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data. Prepare job estimates, maps and schedules.
  • Assess asphalt and concrete work including Excavation Permit inspections.
  • Partake in research projects including data collection and report writing.

Qualifications

  • A completed 2year Technology Diploma, with at least 1 year of related work experience.
  • Applicants must have knowledge of construction equipment, materials and methods related to road and sidewalk construction and/or repair, experience in estimating, technical report writing, surveying, and an understanding of design drawings, material testing reports and inspections.
  • An intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • An intermediate level of proficiency with ArcGIS (including ArcMap) and Hansen Service Requests) will be considered assets.
  • Success in this position requires strong administrative, planning and organizational ability; excellent communication and technical skills, and the ability to work independently and/or in a team environment.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
