Job Description:


  • The Analyst role is a multi faceted one, requiring a high degree of technical competency and indepth industry knowledge

It requires:

  • Substantial interaction with investment managers, as well as operations, risk, legal and compliance departments, and various internal product support groups
  • Expert knowledge of investment management strategies, capital markets and regulatory framework with focus on Offering Memorandum funds and Prospectusbased alternative mutual funds
  • A thorough understanding and commitment to TD Wealth Management's objectives, including providing TD clients with access to bestinclass managers and strategies, and delivering greater value over the longterm through downside protection

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Conduct initial screening and evaluation as well as ongoing reviews/analysis of specific alternative investment managers and mandates, becoming attuned to the firm's philosophy, people, process and performance
  • Collect, update and review exposure reports
  • Organize, prepare for and effectively execute periodic investment manager interviews
  • Monitor alternatives, including private markets mandates on the TD Wealth preferred lists for performance versus expectations
  • Assist in the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of performance reports for the various TD Wealth distribution channels
  • Assist in the creation of detailed fund profiles for all products on TD Wealth's alternative investment preferred list
  • Lead the annual and quarterly due diligence process for alternative investment fund companies on the platform; involves working with third party firms to complete RFIs, analyzing responses to ensure compliance with guidelines and presenting noncompliant firms and products to the Investment Risk Committee for review
  • Accountable for Risk Rati ng assignment for Alternative Investments
  • Research and write timely alternative fund specific research notes/articles consistent with TD Wealth business strategy

Other accountabilities of the role include:

  • Maintain ongoing relationships with alternative investments and private markets managers
  • Stay current of industry events and to participate in related company initiatives
  • Track new development and noteworthy market news particularly on approved firm and products
  • Assist in the development of new tools and reports
  • Prepare fund analysis presentations and dashboards / scorecards for executives
  • Assist in the preparation of updates and timely research on significant capital market events, assisting other divisions with content for print materials
  • Develop an indepth knowledge of research systems that support the team's investment manager research function
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism

Requirements:


Qualifications/Competencies /Accreditation:


  • Strong understanding of capital markets and specialized knowledge/experience in due diligence and/or investment manager research fields
  • Proven knowledge of financial markets with expertise in alternatives, including private market strategies
  • Ability to use technology to obtain and efficiently analyze information
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and able to present to senior executive member
  • Strong time management, prioritization and organizational skills are required to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Well organized, detail oriented and able to execute well in a multi task environment
  • The ability to work both as part of a team and independently to complete tasks, including working over and above a regular workday as required

Specific Educational Requirements:


  • University degree in a related discipline preferably Mathematics, Commerce or Economics
  • Completion of the CFA and/or CAIA program would be considered a nice to have
  • CA and/or FRM qualification an asset

Experience Requirements:


  • 5+ years of progressive experience in the financial services industry, of which at least 23 years experience of reviewing/conducti ng portfolio and operations due diligence on alternative investment managers is an asset. Prior experience reviewing and evaluating private equity, private debt and real assets managers is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is a requirement; knowledge of Access and VBA is an asset
  • Possess an ability for understanding and finding new systems solutions to enhance the team's technology and research capability
  • Knowledge of soft ware packages that assist in investment product research (Morningstar Direct, Bloomberg, Pitchbook, Preqin, Factset, etc.)
