THE OPPORTUNITY
Job Summary


The Counsellor works collaboratively as a member of an integrated services team that provides substance use and other specialized counselling, education, and support services to residents.

This position facilitates the recovery and capacity building of residents to maximize their social and economic, and other life potentials and support their goals for successful independent living in the community.

There are currently multiple Counsellor positions available. Specific information will be made available if you are contacted for a pre-screen.

Responsibilities:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of concurrent disorders, addictions, and addictions counselling.
  • Participate in team efforts to maintain and continuously improve the intake, admissions, and orientation process. Educates client regarding recovery maintenance, relapse prevention personal and life management, identifies and prioritizes life area needs.
  • Maintain accurate client records (assessment data, client care plan, goal setting, case notes and discharge summaries, behavior contracts, incident reports, medication logs) reports, ensures that all required documentation is complete and on time.
  • Act as a positive role model, coach, advisor, leader and rational authority for clients. Teaches clients effective social and interpersonal skills through daily groups and through the tasks of appropriate daily living and social activities.
  • Create and maintain a therapeutic environment following therapeutic community principles which encourage awareness of interdependence of community members, and the value of responsible concern for self and others.
  • Provide helpful information, encouragement, hope for change and for the future. Demonstrates a working knowledge of accepted counselling approaches i.e. solutionfocused therapy, addiction counselling, cognitive restructuring, behavior therapy, clientcentered therapy with the focus on building on the client's internal capacity and potential to change.
  • Conduct individual and group counselling sessions.

THE CANDIDATE

Qualifications:


  • Academic: Master's degree in counselling or social work (Registered Clinical Counsellor)
  • Experience: At least three (3) year's relevant work experience. Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of communitybased programs and related provincial and community support services systems is preferred.
  • Eligible for registration with relevant professional association.
  • Criminal Record check for working with vulnerable populations

Social Services Field:

Preference will be given to those with experience in substance use services and/or social services, preferably within a community setting, with demonstration of sensitivity to the issues of people affected by substance misuse, concurrent disorders, and homelessness.


  • Have a valid RCC Registered Clinical Counsellor designation from the BCACC
  • BC Association of Clinical Counsellors or have a CCC
  • Canadian Clinical Counsellor Certification from the CCPA
  • Canadian Couselling and Psychotherapy Association
