The Youth Programs Manager provides the management, development and planning of youth programs that foster a positive environment within youth programming.

They encourage and promote a supportive environment, often in cooperation with individuals and groups in the community, for at-risk youth to address barriers they may be experiencing.

They are responsible for supervising youth programs staff and support the reporting process for funding sources and grants.

Wage:
Range of $26 - $30 per hour, based on experience

Status:
Full-Time

Hours: 31-40 hours per week, includes evenings and weekends as needed

Central Vancouver Island

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Enables the successful operations of assigned programs (with direct responsibility for SouthSide Teen Centre (SSTC) and Youth Lounge) by ensuring that programs are well attended, organized, and staffed appropriately. Ensures leadership by encouraging twoway communication, participation, motivation and fostering of a positive team environment with the youth programs staff.
  • In order to provide program growth, the manager has shared responsibility and input into determining any gaps in service delivery by identifying program opportunities. This will be undertaken while ensuring an inclusive process of surveying youth and their families in program planning through discussions, and evaluations.
  • Research, evaluate and implement new youthrelated programs throughout the communities served by BGCCVI.
  • Plan, coordinate, publish and promote a monthly calendar of events and activities geared towards youth ages 1118 with the goal to increase program attendance and meet departmental/funding outcomes.
  • Supports the development and coordinates the implementation, evaluation and quality improvement of the youth programs at BGCCVI, in alignment with CARF standards.
  • Collects and submits statistics to supervisor, of program deliverables and program reports (i.e. funding and AGM reports) for internal and external distribution.
  • Promote youth programs online and through traditional media channels such as industry events, youth conferences, community meetings and presentations at schools and other stakeholder locations.
  • Lead the creation and support of an environment that develops positive and healthy youth relationships. Intervenes in individual and/or group situations as needed.
  • Maintains awareness of, and effectively deals with any youth issues, incidents, or crisis situations, providing support and feedback to youth and their family when appropriate, and reporting any necessary information to the appropriate parties.
  • Ensure the safety of participants and staff by adhering to Club vehicle and facility safety policies and procedures and being responsible for JOHSC for the youth programs.
  • Create partnerships and work closely with local businesses and other youth serving organizations to provide diverse opportunities and collaboration for BGCCVI.
  • Attend community meetings and training workshops as required/offered.

Administrative Duties:


  • Responsible for the recruitment, training and development of workplans and performance management of direct reports as well as facilitation of staff meetings
  • Ensure that documents and records pertaining to staff and participants are accurately completed, collected, and stored in a safe and secure manner in compliance with BGCCVI Data Security policies.
  • Work with Director of iCYFS and the SLT team to develop and implement an annual plan, operating budget, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Manage expenditures within existing budget allowance and purchase program materials and supplies as needed.

Qualifications:


  • Degree/Diploma in Recreation Management, Child and Youth Care, or Education. Equivalencies will be considered.
  • Valid Community Care First Aid or equivalent
  • A minimum of 35 years' experience working in a related field with supervisory experience an asset.
  • Class IV Driver's License
