Salary:
$85,983 - $107,478 per annum.


PRIMARY PURPOSE


Manages the day-to-day functions of Fixed Facilities, which will include monitoring performance, scheduling maintenance and overseeing the maintenance and repairs of all fixed facilities.

Supervises the activities of tradespersons, servicepersons, and contractors. This position also schedules and coordinates special projects, ensures that priority is given to service affecting failures and checks that all work carried out is done according to specification, quality and requirements of the relevant safety codes


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Recommends and participates in the development of policies and procedures, both routine and emergency, relating to the maintenance of all fixed facilities and equipment (building systems, HVAC systems, plumbing, carpentry, gas fire extinguishing and fire sprinkler systems, furnishings, landscaping, nonrevenue support vehicles, painting, buildings and equipment, janitorial services etc.) excluding escalators and elevators.
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations, safe work practices and conducts safety inspections and investigations as appropriate.
  • Develops and oversees Preventative Maintenance and Unscheduled Repair Programs for all fixed facilities, and equipment.
  • Prepares work schedules and assigns special projects and repairs by priority on a daily basis.
  • Liaises with outside agencies and other departmental supervisors to coordinate work efforts.
  • Ensures all necessary tools and materials for scheduled maintenance requirements and special projects are available in stock.
  • Research and purchases test equipment when required.
  • Responds to emergency incidents day or night (via pager), prepares reports on repair incidents, failure trends and participates in debriefing meetings as required.
  • Supervises staff including their selection, motivation, training, and scheduling. Also responsible for supervising contractors. Travels to works sites, and ensures compliance with Corporate, departmental, safety and other regulating policies, codes and standards are followed
  • Manages staff complaints and concerns in an expeditious, fair and respectful manner, and participates in disciplinary and grievance processes when applicable.
  • Participates in the preparation of the Departmental Budget and Business Plan. Leads or participates in various committees and meetings.

Qualifications


Red Seal or Interprovincial Ticket in one of the mechanical trades including plumbing, carpentry, gas fitting, millwright or have graduated from a college or university in a Civic engineering or mechanical technology program.


Requires a minimum of 5 years previous experience in a progressively responsible position in a unionized environment, preferably in rail transportation, with a broad knowledge of all aspects of construction and building maintenance, together with demonstrated supervisory skills and ability to administer policies, procedures, and union agreements.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized setting with exposure to labour relations
  • Sound knowledge of standard office software
  • Knowledge and experience in preventative maintenance practices.
