    Agronomic Excellence Agronomist

    Location: Strathmore, AB

    Where the Chemistry Happens...


    The Agronomic Excellence Agronomist is accountable to the Agronomy Manager. This position is responsible for developing trial protocols, establishing, and maintaining field trials for the purpose of evaluation, statistical analysis and summary of results with the goal of developing agronomic recommendations and identifying targeted seed quality enhancements that will provide the highest return to growers. This position is based in Strathmore, Alberta.

    Formula for Success: You Will...

    • Independently conduct field research experiments as assigned, including seeding, spraying, site maintenance and harvesting trials using large scale, commercial farm equipment.
    • Perform maintenance and repair activities on field equipment to ensure it is fully operational.
    • Participate in seed set up to ensure the trial seed for the program is ready to plant on schedule.
    • Assess crop health through daily monitoring of field and research plots, data collection and analysis.
    • Participate in protocol development, data analysis and interpretation, summary presentations and literature reviews.
    • Develop successful, sustainable, and productive relationships with growers and members of industry.
    • Field trial data collection, analysis, and research summaries throughout the year.
    • Represent Agronomic Excellence at field tours and in cross functional teams and present findings at meetings.
    • Exercise problem solving through analytical thinking and judgment.
    • Hire, supervise, train and coach Summer Associates.
    • Assist other agronomists as required to ensure success of the field program.

    Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You...

    • Bachelor's degree, in Agriculture, or related diploma and equivalent experience.
    • 3-5 years of experience conducting field research trials focused on seeds.
    • Agronomic experience, well-rounded technical skills and understanding of research and the seed industry.
    • Experience operating commercial farm machinery, including seeding, spraying and harvesting field crops, previous canola experience preferred.
    • Class 1A driver's license with experience hauling over dimensional loads is an asset.
    • Experience in field trial data collection, analysis and summaries.
    • Ability to work both independently and contribute as a member of the departmental team.
    • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to be flexible in daily work, skilled in time management and able to manage and understand behavior differences for success.
    • Forklift operation certificate, First Aid certification, or willing to train.
    • Experience coaching and mentoring employees.
    • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and work overtime during peak periods as required.
    • Extensive travel within territory required during field season with occasional travel outside territory.
