JOB SUMMARY

:


Reporting to the Director of Care the Educator uses principles of adult learning and assesses, plans, implements and evaluates education and development needs of Licensed Practical Nurses and Mental Health Aides, with an emphasis on Standards, quality assurance, Best Practices and Policy.

The Educator works with the Leadership Team to coordinate and support implementation of educational care initiatives for orientation, mandatory education, re-certification and in-service/continuing education.


This is a permanent part-time position, 0.8 FTE.

QUALIFICATIONS

:

Graduation from a recognized program for Registered Nurse

:


  • Active Registration with C.A.R.N.A.
  • Valid C.P.R. certificate ( Heart and Stroke CPR
  • Level HCP)
  • At least one year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred
  • Clear criminal record security clearance with Vulnerable Sector included (no more than 6 months old)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • General computer skills, strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Position requires flexibility in working hours in order to meet the needs of the Staff.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a changing environment.
  • Must be able to work independently, and as part of the interdisciplinary Team.
  • This job requires a significant amount of physical activity, including lifting (up to 50 pounds maximum) and frequent lifting of up to 20 pounds, as well as, bending, walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

:


  • Maintains current knowledge of carerelated practice regarding mental health and geriatrics in the Supportive Living environment.
  • Develops an annual Staff development calendar aligned with the strategic directions and site tactical plans. Utilizes the annual Staff development process to evaluate progress in meeting strategic direction and operational plans.
  • Supporting Staff by providing formal and informal teaching on an ongoing basis, including education inservices, teachable moments, learning modules and workshops.
  • Monitors ongoing Staff development needs and accesses external resources, programs or workshops for continuing education of staff members.
  • Creates, modifies, distributes, monitors and evaluates nursing Staff's mandatory education requirements within the policies and mandate of Park Place Seniors.
  • Rolemodels Best Practices and collaborates within the nursing profession to enhance nursing care.
  • Works with the Leadership Team to discuss current initiatives and resolve issues as related to best practice and improved care delivery.
  • Completes internal audits to ensure required Standards and Park Place Seniors Living policies and processes are met.

HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

:


  • Responsible to read, understand and comply with PPSL's and provinciallymandated Occupational Health and Safety policies and safe work practices.
  • Involved in all aspects of the Health and Safety Program including:
  • Uses safe work procedures,
  • Promotes health and safety policy and awareness,
  • Makes safety suggestions.
  • Reads OHS minutes posted.
    Responsible to take every reasonable precaution to protect the safety of Residents, self, other workers and the general public.
