$70 an hour - Part-time, Independent Contractor Total 90 hours combined hrs.


Active for Life has more than a decade of success in the physical fitness/sports sector from the 2010 Olympics to being a leader in childhood physical literacy.

Now with a new Federal grant, our client will provide a micro-website bringing physical literacy and education resources to early childhood educators.

We are a national initiative created to help parents give their children the right start in life through the development of physical literacy.


The Role


Active For Life (AFL), a division of B2ten, will work to build the health and resilience of children from birth to age six in childcare settings by increasing the capacity of early childhood educators (ECEs) to provide enhanced opportunities for active play in diverse communities across Canada.

AFL will build and disseminate innovative tools and resources designed to increase ECEs capacity, motivation, confidence, and competence to provide daily physical active play opportunities for children.

This project will result in cognitive, social, emotional, and physical benefits to children and ECEs.


Reporting to the Managing Director and the Project Manager, the Promotion & Marketing Specialist will be part of the collaborative project team working closely with the Resource and Outreach Coordinators, Content Specialist, and Web Designer, Specialist and Indigenous Community Engagement Coordinator.

The primary task is to create a marketing plan, develop the marketing assets and coordinate the implementation of the plan which will drive ECEs to the new websites.

Consulting with the Specialist and the Indigenous Community Engagement Coordinator, appropriate ethnic and Indigenous platforms and publications will be identified and invited to share out the PSAs.

The plan will drive ECEs to the new websites while cultivating new ethnic and indigenous audiences. A media release will be written and distributed via the most appropriate channels.

Also included will be the collection and evaluation of metrics related to marketing efforts for Developmental Evaluation purposes and for the analysis for the final report.


Independent Contractor Responsibilities:


  • Create a marketing plan in consultation with the project team for two audiences: ECEs, including Indigenous and immigrant ECEs, and the centres where they work, as well as for media outlets that serve our target audiences
  • Coordinate the incorporation of the feedback received from the AfL team and the Advisory Group, as well as the Indigenous and Immigrant Specialists, as appropriate, to ensure that the marketing pieces are compelling and culturally relevant to a wide variety of individuals within the target audiences
  • Coordinate the Resource and Outreach Coordinator to translate the marketing resources as per the plan
  • Contribute the writing of the media alert as needed
  • Identify the most appropriate media alert service to reach our target audiences and engage them at the appropriate time
  • Engage the Outreach Coordinator to implement the outreach aspects of the plan using the marketing materials that have been developed for their use
  • Ensure that the outreach and uptake is tracked for evaluation purposes
  • Work with the appropriate AfL team members to coordinate the integration of the project into the regular social media posts to drive users to the new websites
  • Manage a paid social campaign delivered by a third party organizations within the budgeted amount
  • Ensure that appropriate social media metrics are collected for evaluation purposes
  • Identify the most appropriate ethnic and Indigenous media platforms and publications and invite them to publish the Public Service Announcements designed for this purpose
  • Ensure that the outreach and uptake of this activity is tracked for evaluation purposes
  • Track and evaluate the reach and uptake related to the marketing activities for evaluation purposes
  • Contribute to the final report as requested

Experience and Qualifications:


  • A Degree or Diploma in communications or marketing preferred or equivalent experience
  • 3 to 5 years' experience working in a relevant area such as; sales, advertising, marketing, design or web publishing
  • Highly organized and detailoriented
  • Work well as an independent contractor
  • Experience working remotely would be an asset
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations would be an asset
  • Experience with virtual meeting platforms such as Google Suites, Google Meets, or ability to dial into meetings
  • As a contractor you will use your own computer, laptop, webcam, high speed internet and materials required to complete the job
  • Work from home office
