Description

We are looking for a quality controller to join our team in Quebec City, at Watt Avenue, Quebec City, Quebec G1P 3T2.


The Quality and R&D Controller, under the supervision of management, is responsible for quality assurance and research and development in the company.

His role covers the entire production chain, whether it be at the manufacturing, processing and storage levels, in terms of prevention and correction, with all stakeholders (subcontractors, suppliers, production employees, control authorities, customers) within the framework of the food safety management system (FSMS).

He is also responsible for steering R&D projects and improving existing products. He/she reports to the general management on all matters related to the above.


Your tasks will mainly consist of:

Management of quality assurance and product compliance:

  • Develops, implements and follows up on all FSMS documentation in compliance with provincial and federal regulatory requirements, documentation related to procedures, production employee training, instructions and other forms related to the standards detailed above
  • Plans the laboratory tests required for the proper monitoring of the microbiological, chemical and physical quality of raw materials, ingredients and finished products
  • Ensures the followup of nonconformities and evaluates the corrective and preventive actions to be taken
Verifies that the personnel assigned to the production of products respect the good manufacturing practices and the rules of health and hygiene

  • Promotes continuous improvement through monitoring, reporting and regular review of quality performance indicators
  • The Quality and R&D Controller is responsible for developing, monitoring and updating employee training on quality issues

Ensures the relevance of the training and competencies of the food safety team:

  • Determines the required training, ensures and/or supervises employee training and refresher courses
  • Makes all employees aware of the quality and safety of foodstuffs

The quality and R&D controller acts as a resource person and is responsible for quality with all stakeholders:

  • Reports to senior management on the effectiveness and relevance of the FSMS and possible improvements through monthly meetings, and plans the management review
  • Communicates with statutory and legal authorities and acts as a contact person for government inspections, internal and external certification audits, and ensures the coordination and followup of internal and external audits
  • Issue informative communiqués to customers in the event of recalls/communications and qualityrelated information
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by communicating with suppliers, customers and employees

The quality and R&D controller brings his expertise in food quality to the company and manages the research and development aspect (development of new products, improvement of existing products, extension of product life, etc.)

  • Develops and approves specification sheets and nutritional tables for new products

Required qualifications and skills:


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or food science and technology or other relevant fields (biochemistry, microbiology, science, etc.)
  • Minimum of five years experience in a similar position, ideally in the food processing industry
  • Knowledge and experience with FSMS, quality certification and HACCP
  • Experience in internal and external audits related to food quality
  • Excellent knowledge of computer programs: Word, Excel, Outlook 365, Internet Explorer, Power Point (an asset)
  • Excellent knowledge of French: oral and written
