IPG Photonics (Canada) is seeking a Construction Project Manager to join our team.

We are the Canadian subsidiary of IPG Photonics Corporation (NASDAQ:
IPGP).

Our office makes innovative imaging and quality assurance tools that are paired with our parent company's high power industrial laser processing systems that are fundamental tools in global advanced manufacturing environments including electrified transportation, aerospace, medical devices and consume electronics.


The Construction Project Manager is to be IPG's point person for the construction of a sophisticated 37,400 sq ft R&D, precision manufacturing, laboratory, and office facility in Kingston, Ontario.

During construction, you will supervise the general contractor, represent IPG's interests, and evaluate project progress and quality of work.

As the project nears completion in late 2024, you will coordinate the furnishing and fit-out of the offices, laser/robot labs, automation and control systems, etc.

according to IPG's technical and business needs.

You will also be responsible for working with our accounting team to track costs, budgets and assist us in reporting project progress to management and external parties as required to fulfill funding obligations.


This role is ideally suited to someone with extensive experience as a project manager, site superintendent, field engineer, trade boss, or quality control agent on multiple commercial, industrial, and/or institutional construction projects.

This is a two-year contract position.

The contract is presumed to be for a fixed term, but may become renewable or convertible to a permanent position depending on IPG's business needs at that time.

You will be based out of IPG Canada's current "Site B" office on Dalton Avenue in Kingston, with regular visits to the construction site.


Responsibilities:


  • Supervise the general contractor on a major construction project.
  • Provide the GC with prompt and accurate answers to any questions that arise during construction.
  • Coordinate communication between the GC, architects, engineers, planners, government officials, IPG management, IPG legal, and IPG finance.
  • Identify schedule, technical, and financial risks well in advance of them becoming problems, and take appropriate action to mitigate them.
  • Provide regular reports to IPG management.
  • Enforce the terms of the CCDC2 stipulated price contract.
  • Issue specifications and tenders for finishing and fitout tasks that are not part of the GC's scope of work.
  • Ensure that all invoices, status reports, etc. are processed quickly and efficiently.
  • Evaluate the quality of the construction work, maintaining deficiency records and punchlists in collaboration with the GC's project manager and superintendent.
  • Manage commissioning, final fitout, and equipment/workforce relocation.
  • Track costs, maintain budgets and assist with financial reporting information pertaining to the project.
  • Communicate with company senior management and project partners about project progress and related matters.
Successful applicants will require the following qualifications & qualities

  • Experience in a senior onsite management role (PM, superintendent, field engineer, trade boss, QC agent, owner's rep, etc.) for at least three major ( >$10m) commercial, industrial, or institutional construction projects.
  • At least 15 years of experience in onsite management, trade boss, and/or tradesperson roles in the construction industry.
  • Able to quickly and accurately evaluate the work of all structural, building envelope, mechanical, electrical, and finishing trades.
  • Able to communicate in English clearly and efficiently with managers, architects, engineers, lawyers, and tradespeople using jargon, language, and media appropriate to each group.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of construction project contracting, project management, and site operations.
  • Class G or higher driving license with a clean & insurable record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
