Description

As part of the Airport Facilities team, the Building Technician position is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of buildings HVAC systems, plumbing systems and installations, as well as maintenance of building related items such as overhead doors, doors, roofs, installations and repairs including minor building repairs and upkeep at the Saskatoon John G.

Diefenbaker International Airport. The position will report to the Supervisor Facilities (Buildings).


Specific Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventative maintenance and repairs of HVAC, Air Handlers, Pumps, Plumbing, Building Automation and Controls, Baggage Conveying Systems, Passenger Loading Bridges, Fire Protection Systems, Overhead Doors, Security Gates and other general building maintenance tasks related building equipment.
  • Responsible for carrying out inspections, tests and repairs on all HVAC (including exhaust and filtering systems) equipment.
  • Responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of various types of air handlers, chillers, fan coil units and pumps.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the building environment (heating and air conditioning) systems.
  • Building automation and control, as well as alarm troubleshooting.
  • Responsible for repair and maintenance to passenger loading bridges, security gates and baggage conveyor systems.
  • Responsible for preventive maintenance scheduled inspections, repairs and modifications to building plumbing systems, including but not limited to toilets, urinals, lavatories and sewage lift stations.
  • Responsible for the preventative maintenance, inspections and repairs of overhead doors and baggage conveying systems.
  • Responsible for routine inspections including maintaining pressure settings on fire protection sprinkler system.
  • Carry out emergency repairs so as to ensure the continued operation of all plant and equipment.
  • Adhere to the SAA Bird & Wildlife and Occupational Health & Safety Programs.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Education and Professional Experience:


  • Grade 12 Education
  • Applicable Trade Certification minimum 5th Class Power Engineer with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a Facilities Maintenance and/or Public/Civic Works environment, with thorough knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems operational safety codes and best practices in maintaining HVAC mechanical equipment.
  • Possession of other valid related trade certification(s) for Building Technicians.
  • Proficiency in the English language both spoken and written, with the ability to communicate in French considered an asset.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

Skills:


  • Computerized Building Automation System experience related to HVAC system operation.
  • Communicate effectively, expressing ideas and concepts in oral and written form Detail oriented with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness, and a strong ability to multitask.

  • Thorough knowledge of commercial building HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Operation of building fire and sprinkler systems.
  • Working knowledge of computerized preventive maintenance and work order systems.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to use a variety of testing equipment to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair problems.
  • Operational, safety codes and best practices pertaining to the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge, skills and ability to perform preventative maintenance to equipment as listed under Specific Responsibilities (see above).

Ability to:


  • Obtain a valid First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Obtain a Firearms Possession & Acquisition License
  • Work independently and as part of a team in a collaborative and respectful manner.
  • Liaise with outside contractors to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations pertaining to HVAC and building systems.
  • Monitor the performance of a variety of contractors supplying services to the airport to ensure quality service.
  • Analyse and solve problems in a dynamic environment.
  • Read, interpret and understand blueprints and technical drawings.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
