ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:


The Technical Support Specialist supports internal and external work by procuring parts for operations work and selling parts to customers.

The incumbent will also support the Manager, Motive Power Technical Support as needed.


MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Research and source parts, tools, and components for locomotives and shop equipment and those required by workers to perform operational duties.
  • Key contact for customer inquiries for parts pricing and availability.
  • Respond to technical inquiries and advise on solutions.
  • Assist in preparing quotes for customers accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare parts lists for major internal projects, items for shipment to customers and internal stakeholders ensuring accuracy of shipping method, documents, and materials.
  • Maintain positive work relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Run and reviews reports to ensure all parts for area of responsibility are properly allocated, received, and issued and report any issues appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Assist in maintaining, updating, and evaluating stock levels using computerized database system.
  • Perform physical inventory counts and inspection of parts/components.
  • Supervise unionized staff when required.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Valid Red Seal License in Heavy Equipment Technician, Truck and Coach Technician, Automotive Technician, or 8000 hours in Apprenticeship under one of the mentioned trades
  • 35 years of recent related work experience in mechanical corrective, preventive, and structural maintenance as well as troubleshooting, installation, layout, and planning.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of reading, interpreting, and working from blueprints
  • Extensive experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics and using mechanical tools and devices.
  • Experience and knowledge of railroads, locomotives, troubleshooting, maintenance programs and mechanical requirements an asset
  • Basic electrical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of safety codes and demonstrated ability to work in a safety conscious manner.
  • Ability to multitask and implement and adapt to change in a fastpaced working environment.
  • Ability to make informed decisions based on available information.
  • Experience with procurement or inventory systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written)
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Supervisory skills an asset.
