CHEO RI has an immediate requirement for a Business Development and Commercialization Manager.
CHEO has recently launched an innovation program called TECHi (Technology Enabling Child Health
Innovations), whose purpose is to create a rich support ecosystem designed for healthcare innovators who aim to improve the lives of children and youth.

We are committed to driving innovation and fostering collaboration between industry leaders, start-ups, and entrepreneurs.

Our innovation program is designed to identify, nurture, and accelerate ground-breaking ideas that have the potential to transform the care we provide and provide the best life for our patients and their families.

We provide a supportive ecosystem, access to resources, and strategic partnerships to help these ideas grow and thrive.

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Business Development and Commercialization Manager to join our team and play a pivotal role in driving the success of our innovation program.


As a Business Development Manager within our innovation program, you will be responsible for identifying, engaging, and securing strategic partnerships, sponsorships, and investment opportunities.

You will work closely with our internal teams, start-ups, entrepreneurs, and industry experts to develop and execute business development strategies aligned with our program's objectives.

You will be responsible for the business development of our own services, as well as playing a leadership and mentorship role in business development for the companies we work with.


Your role will involve the following key responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Manager, Innovation Program, the Business Development and

Commercialization, Manager will:

Develop partnerships:

  • Identify and engage with potential strategic partners, including corporates, investors, academic institutions, and government entities.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to understand partner requirements and align program offerings with their needs.
  • Work with researchers to advance promising technologies, develop commercialization strategies and seek out potential industry partners to commercialize the technologies.
  • Deliver compelling and persuasive presentations to showcase the value propositions of the innovation program.
  • Negotiate and finalize partnership agreements, ensuring mutually beneficial terms.

Identify sponsorship and fundraising opportunities:

  • Identify sponsorship opportunities and secure financial support from corporate sponsors, foundations, and other potential donors.
  • Develop compelling sponsorship proposals and presentations to attract financial investment.
  • Maintain relationships with sponsors and donors, ensuring their continued engagement and support.

Facilitate investments in new projects:

  • Work closely with startups, entrepreneurs, and investment firms to understand their funding requirements.
  • Connect startups with potential investors and facilitate investment discussions.
  • Assist startups in preparing investment pitches, business plans, and financial models.

Develop program expansion strategies:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to expand the innovation program's reach and impact.
  • Identify new markets, sectors, and industries to target for program growth.
  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to stay abreast of industry trends and opportunities.
  • Grow and lead the business development and commercialization team by hiring and coaching new members of the team.

Manage stakeholder and customer relationships:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with program participants, stakeholders, and industry influencers.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure effective communication and coordination across all program activities.
