What can I expect to do in this role?: You will:

  • provide enterprise risk management and audit coordination and alignment oversight to meet both ministry-specific and corporate controllership requirements
- develop and implement the ministry's enterprise risk management framework and policies/practices
- review ministry policies, processes, and practices to ensure they include strategic and operational control processes and promote accountability and risk management
- coordinate and provide training and mentor staff on enterprise risk management policies and best practices, and risk management principles/practices
- provide technical advice and guidance on enterprise risk management matters (e.g. risk identification, risk assessment, risk mitigation, risk monitoring and risk reporting)


How do I qualify?:


Enterprise Risk Management Knowledge:

- you have knowledge of risk management principles, practices, standards, methodologies and current trends, in order to provide oversight, advice and expertise regarding the ministry's exposure to strategic, operational and business process risk
- you can interpret and provide advice on emergency, risk management guidelines, develop and implement an emergency risk management framework, provide risk assessment and management oversight, and respond to, and implement, audit and change initiatives
- you have knowledge of assessment, auditing and financial principles, concepts, and best practices in the areas of emergency risk management and variance analysis
- you have demonstrated experience developing, recommending and implementing risk management processes, systems, and standards
- you have demonstrated experience with organization operations risks, and corresponding controls and monitoring activities in order to support annual audit planning and assurance activities


Other Technical Expertise:

- you have demonstrated experience with organizational structures, in order to develop internal control frameworks that meet specific business requirements and respect relevant legislation and corporate directives
- you can provide controllership oversight and related advice, identify impact of new/updated legislation, policies, directives and procedures on ministry program controls, and identify/recommend solutions to areas of risk
- you can identify discrepancies in large quantities of data, determine areas of risk, and provide effective risk response oversight
- you have project management skills to establish/document the ministry's operative control strategies and structures in identified risk areas and to participate in strategic and operational project planning/implementation


Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

- you have effective oral and written communication, consulting and education skills, and can prepare extensive reports, provide advice, and promote effective risk management through presentations and training
- you have interpersonal skills to build/maintain effective working relationships needed to support horizontal, collaborative approaches to problem-solving
- you have presentation, persuasion and negotiation skills to provide explanations of complex risk issues and recommend/support development of mitigation strategies, discuss the implications of audit findings, and recommend changes to risk mitigation and controls, policies and procedures, and can influence corrective action
- you have negotiation skills to participate in a variety of controllership-related projects and promote cost-effective control measures to address requirements


Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

- you can conduct in-depth research and analysis of risk mitigation/controls, complex data, emerging trends and other related matters, in order to develop the foundation for the enterprise risk management framework, address emerging trends and risks, and provide advice for developing and implementing optimal risk mitigation and controls
- you can develop/guide effective risk mitigation and control methodologies and approaches for the ministry and identify/analyze ministry enterprise risk issues
