Shadowland:

Co-Artistic Directors are Anne Barber and Brad Harley.


Shadowland Theatre is looking for a part-time

General Manager to support the co-Artistic Directors in the day-to-day administrative, management and organizational operations of the company.


As a part-time position the role can be customized to an individual's strengths and interests, in close collaboration with the Artistic Directors.

There may be additional opportunities to be involved in other aspects of the company's work on a contract basis. Flexible hours and some remote work possible, occasional evening and weekend work required.

Shadowland operates from a studio and office in the Parkdale neighbourhood of Toronto and on location with the many communities we collaborate with.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Supporting the administrative, management and producing elements of Shadowland's activities, which include outdoor theatre events, parades, community workshops, youth programs, intern training, design commissions, and creating special events.
  • Managing daytoday operational and administrative tasks: answering inquiries, contracting artists, project and strategic planning, records keeping, evaluation, general office and company management.
  • Financial management: project budgeting, invoicing, contracting, coordinating with bookkeeper.
  • Assisting with grants, reports, operational budgets, strategic plans, new funding opportunities.
  • Publicity and outreach: managing social media, website, newsletters, coordinating and disseminating publicity and promotional materials, liaising with community collaborators.
  • Coordinating project, artist and volunteer schedules.
  • Liaising with Board members, scheduling meetings, taking minutes.

Requirements:

  • Strong sense of prioritizing, clarifying, and defining objectives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills and attention to detail


  • Strong computer skills

  • Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Wix, Mailchimp, social media but welcome additional efficiencyenhancing options. We are Mac users.
  • Adept and imaginative with social media, and creative with outreach and promotion
  • Experience working in the arts, theatre and/or notforprofit sector
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Positive, motivated, flexible and adaptable to our changing and sometimes hectic workload

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Arts Administration, Theatre Production, or equivalent work and/or educational experience
  • Strong communications/promotions/social media experience
  • Driver's License is an asset
