Position Description:


The Interprofessional Education Specialist (IES) is a leadership role focused on advancing paediatric practice through the provision of interprofessional education which influences clinical, professional and leadership development.

Education is an iterative process whereby the educator is engaged in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation that influences the development of staff and students along the continuum of novice to expert practice.

The vision for the role is operationalized through program development, classroom and clinical teaching, continuous quality improvement, staff & patient safety, consultation, networking, education innovation, scholarship and strategic initiatives.

Strategic directions drive the initiatives that IES's undertake to support and advance clinical practice.

You will have direct accountability to the Senior Manager, Interprofessional Education and the Associate Chief of Nursing & Interprofessional Education.


You will be responsible for education programs and activities that support the goals of
5A/5B; ENT, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Urology & Gynecology and the organization, promoting continuing professional development of staff and learners.

You will provide direct and indirect support to staff in the delivery of orientation and ongoing staff development programs, and support staff in their role as clinical resources/leaders on the unit.

You will collaborate with nursing and the interprofessional team to support best practices around the administration, assessment, and monitoring of patients receiving post-operative care.

  • You will be responsible for designing and delivering creative education programs and activities that support the goals of the strategic directions of the Hospital, the Interprofessional Education portfolio and the Learning Institute strategic plan promoting continuing professional development of staff.
  • Use knowledge grounded in theory, research and experience to develop, implement and evaluate educational programs and to integrate core clinical concepts into programming.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to staff.
  • Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning and disseminate new knowledge through scholarly work including presentations and publications.
  • You will work collaboratively with the IES team, Managers, Directors and interprofessional colleagues in creating a healthy learning and work environment. You will be a strong role model for education colleagues, stakeholders & staff.
  • You are a systems thinker who collaborates with Interprofessional colleagues in program development, knowledge translation strategies and implementation science.

Here's What You'll Need

Essential Requirements

  • Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses in Ontario
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Adult Education or equivalent
  • Minimum of three to five years of recent clinical care experience within your specific healthcare profession, experience in pediatric surgical care is strongly recommended
  • Strong evidence of nursing expertise in paediatric patient care and dedication to excellence in clinical practice
  • Selfdirected and motivated, pushes boundaries, innovative and creative
  • Demonstrated experience with theoretical and practical work in adult education including program planning, change leadership and project management
  • Experience in teaching in both clinical and classroom setting
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and collaboratively within the interprofessional team
  • Demonstrated strong leadership capabilities, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, within an interprofessional team
  • Solid understanding of current and future issues and innovations in health care and education and the potential impact on the strategic direction of the hospital and interprofessional education
  • Theoretical knowledge of and technical and practical experience in elea
