Position Description:


The Simulation Educator acts as a leadership role to advance paediatric practice through the provision of education which influences clinical, professional and leadership development.

Education in an iterative process whereby the educator is engaged in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation that influences the development of staff and students along the continuum of novice to expert practice.

The vision for the role is operationalized through program development, continuous quality improvement, consultation, networking, the education process, scholarship and strategic initiatives.

Strategic directions drive the initiatives that the Simulation Educators undertake.


Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Staff Development_
The Simulation Educator is responsible for the facilitation of knowledge and skill development. This involves the provision or facilitation of education for interprofessional staff across the organization.

The Simulation Educator actively contributes to the advancement of Interprofessional Education through involvement in the development of programming that crosses professions to facilitate positive health outcomes for children and a healthy work environment for interprofessional staff.

The Simulation Educator will be responsible for developing programming (i.e. curriculum for educators such as facilitation and debriefing courses) and at times collaborate with unit educators to develop curriculum relevant to their specific units.

Uses broad knowledge base of the health care environment, clinical expertise, educational theories and models, program/curriculum development/evaluation, organizational development, technical expertise, process consultation and research utilization to promote a positive learning culture.

The Simulation Educator will also support the Resuscitation Education Program in the delivery of courses such as BLS, PALS, PEARS and Friends and Family.


  • Education Management and Collaborative Leadership_


The Simulation Educator leads and manages education and learning for interprofessional staff as well as contributes to the direction of simulation education as aligned with the SickKids Strategic Directions.

Contributes to decision making related to education needs of staff in collaboration with the Simulation Steering Committee.

Responsible for ensuring quality education within a learning environment that maximizes productivity, quality care, values creativity, and strives for cost-effectiveness of learning activities.

Utilizes systematic tracking mechanisms to evaluate level of progress and accomplishments.

In summary, integrates a collaborative and transformational leadership style, conveys a vision that incorporates current and future needs, and empowers others to achieve the overall SickKids mission and vision.


  • Program Planning and Development_
The Simulation Educator possesses a strong understanding of clinical practice and partners with Simulation Instructors or Associate Instructors (i.e. ANPEs, Interprofessional Educators, Physicians) to inform program planning processes for the clinical area. Additionally, the Simulation Educator drives program planning related to simulation-enhance education (i.e. Facilitation, Debriefing).

The Simulation Educator uses a depth and breadth of education knowledge that is grounded in a multi-theoretical approach, research and experience that enables the identification of learning needs, planning and implementation of education programs, and program evaluation.

  • Systems & Process Advancement_
The Simulation Educators influence organizational thinking and are champions of change. They are able to articulate and align education and learning objectives with the strategic directions of the organization.
