JOB DUTIES

  • Provide agricultural crop services such as plowing, irrigating, cultivating, spraying, fertilizing or harvesting
  • Operate various types of farm equipment and machinery
  • Maintain and clean various types of farm equipment and machinery
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions and conduct (minor) repairs
  • Maintain quality control and productions records
  • Ensure farm safety and biosecurity procedures are followed
  • May liaise with clients on provisions of service
  • May supervise, train and coordinate the work of general farm workers and harvesting labourers
  • May need to examine products for quality and prepare goods for shipment and market

JOB REQUIREMENTS:


  • Completion of secondary school preferred
  • One year of experience
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Able to work overtime as required
  • Dependability and reliability are assets

GOOD TO KNOW
Major field crops grown in Western Canada include wheat, canola, barley, corn, soybeans and (seed) potatoes. Other crops include rye, oats and mixed grains. Spring planting typically takes place in April and May and silaging season usually starts mid-June. Harvesting activities generally end in October.
