As a member of the Youth Psychiatry Program, you will use best practices to provide person centred Social Work services to transitional-aged youth and their families.

This includes assessment, therapeutic intervention and discharge planning; in collaboration with the clinical team, client, families, and hospital and community partners.


Duties:


  • Assessment, shortterm goal focused treatment and support to youth and their families and caregivers.
  • Provide individual, family and group therapy following best practice standards.
  • Complete risk assessment and crisis intervention plans.
  • Engage client, family and caregivers in the clinical interventions and risk reduction strategies with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients, families and caregivers for appropriate services and resources.
  • Collaborate, consult and liaise with team members and community resources.
  • Provide timely and comprehensive written biopsychosocial assessments, treatment and discharge reports.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of a professional social worker.
  • Document on the clinical record according to hospital, college and legislative standards.
  • Maintain workload measurement and data collection as required.
  • Participate and lead in research and program evaluation.
  • Participate in teaching, education and supervision of Social Work students.
  • Attend and actively participate in Social Work clinical audit and consultation groups.
  • Attend Social work meetings.
  • Participate in hospital, Social Work and quality improvement projects
  • Keep current of hospital policies and procedures and applicable legislation.
  • Keep up to date regarding professional standards by reviewing current literature, attending education events, networking with colleagues, etc.
  • Participate in Program and discipline specific committees and task groups.
  • Provide evidence based psycho therapeutic interventions individually and in group format
  • Provide educational presentations to community groups.
  • Flexibility in work schedule; day and evening hours as required.
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the ROHCG.
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal's Anti Racism, Harassment, and Discrimination Free Workplace Policy.
  • Complete and maintain all requirements for registration with OCSWSSW
  • Any other duties as directed by the Manager or delegate of Patient Care Services

Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in Social Work is required
  • Minimum 35 years clinical Social Work experience in a mental health setting.
  • Competency in providing psychotherapy under the Controlled Act of Psychotherapy
  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
  • Experience working with youth and families in a mental health setting.
  • Understanding of early onset of psychosis, and other mental health issues including substance use in youth.
  • Excellent knowledge of community resources related to the needs of youth and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Person centred approach.
  • Experience in group work.
  • Knowledge of recoverybased programs.
  • Knowledge and recent experience in CBT for treating Youth with mental health challenges.
  • Knowledge and recent experience in evidence based short term goal focused treatment modalities for treating Youth with mental health challenges.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislated acts (e.g. MHA, PHIPA, The Health Care Consent Act).
  • Ability to manage and determine priorities with a diverse case load.
  • Strong advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work in an automated work environment.
  • High level of knowledge, skill and confidence in using electronic health record systems for clinical documentation and navigation.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable vehicle.
