About Our Opportunity
Primary Accountabilities
- Ensure the effective supervision of the Application Clerk/Officer team by setting and evaluating performance targets, promoting diversity and a healthy workplace, demonstrating leadership competencies, taking part in, and respecting corporate human resources practices, promoting teamwork and individual development, manage performance and maintaining internal communication.
- Provide direction in the areas of tenant placement options and community development to address chronic vacancies and conducts market research to identify emerging trends in the community related to housing need.
- Liaise with community agencies and government programs such as Home Care Nova Scotia, Adult Protection, Child Protection, and Income Assistance, medical personnel such as doctors, geriatric and mental health specialists, hospital workers, etc., as well as family members and other advocates and volunteer groups.
- Other assigned duties.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, plus five years' experience, including at least three years supervisory experience in a unionized environment preferred.
- Good knowledge of relevant legislation, including Adult Protection Act, Family and Children Services Act, Young Offenders Act, Criminal Code, Residential Tenancies Act, etc.
- Computer skills and competency in desktop software including Microsoft Office.
- Communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Interpersonal skills to deal with coworkers, tenants, contractors and vendors, other departments, and the public in a positive, tactful, courteous, and cooperative manner.
- Ability to exercise tact, discretion, sound judgment and initiative when investigating, questioning, and dealing with inquiries, requests and submissions that are sensitive and confidential in nature.
- Possess valid nova scotia driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.
Assets
- Experience supervising unionized employees.
- Working knowledge of Yardi Property Management software.
- Knowledge of NSPHA policies and procedures.
Competencies required at this level of work are Decision Making, Problem-solving Skills, Adaptability, Communication, Leadership and Client Services.
Equivalency
An equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.
Checks may include one or more of the following: criminal background checks, driver's abstract, and confirmation of education credentials.
