The Opportunity:

The Coordinator, Occupational Health and Safety will report to and assist the Occupational Health & Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Manager in the ongoing development and enhancement of the facility's Occupational Health and Safety program.

This involves providing technical support, training, implementation, and maintenance of the program to and for all employees and visitors, as well as the administration of both work and non-work related claims.

They will be required to work closely with managers, supervisors, and individual employees to promote Occupational Health and Safety issues in the facility, as well as develop safer, healthier and more efficient ways of working.


The Coordinator, Occupational Health and Safety coordinates Occupational Health and Safety systems within the facility, identifies hazards, assesses risks to Occupational Health and Safety, and ensures appropriate safety controls are in place.

The Coordinator, Occupational and Safety is also responsible for coordinating training, communications, involvement, and accountability-supporting incident prevention and compliance programs.


Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:


  • Promote Occupational Health and Safety, Security and Environmental plans, goals, and objectives.
  • Provide support to hourly and salaried staff by having a visible presence on the production floor.
  • Foster good staff relationships to gain commitment from all employees.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with Corporate Tier 2 policies, Tier 3 standards, and Tier 5 standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.
  • File Workers' Compensation reports, ensuring all required information is clearly presented and reported to the Board within timelines outlined in the Workers' Compensation legislation.
  • Assist employees in filing claim reports when required.
  • Report applicable medical history, attendance, financial information, job history, etc. to the appropriate insurance carrier.
  • Challenge and appeal any claims with a questionable incident.
  • Assist with the rehabilitation of employees after incidents or injuries, and ensure returntowork placements are conducted productively, consistently within restrictions, and in a costeffective manner.
  • Produce reports and statistical information.
  • Perform administrative duties of data entry and filing.
  • In the absence of a Manager or Supervisor, Occupational Health and Safety, develop and communicate Occupational Health and Safety systems, including facility policies and procedures.
  • Develop and deliver safety training to all newly hired employees, outlining all safety policies and programs, identifying roles and responsibilities, and obtaining acknowledgement from each employee.
  • Conduct job safety analyses (JSA), safe work procedures (SWP), and physical demands descriptions (PDD).
  • Provide support to and follow up with the supervisors regarding incident investigation reports; specifically, identifying root causes and following up on outstanding or ineffective corrective actions.
  • In the absence of a Manager or Supervisor, Occupational Health and Safety, prepare weekly safety messages for supervisors. This includes determining the appropriate topic and ensuring that the supervisor is prepared and able to deliver the required information effectively.
  • Monitor departmental safety activities including safety meetings, inspections, training, task observations, investigations.
  • Seek continuous improvement to Occupational Health and Safety programs by assisting in monthly department safety inspections, periodic and annual audits, and the implementation of subsequent action plans.
  • In the absence of a Manager or Supervisor, Occupational Health and Safety, assess training requirements for management, supervision, and Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee members, as well as coordinate appropriate training sessions.
  • Conduct and coordinate training sessions for management, supervisors, and employees on Occupational Health and Safety practices, legislation, and industry changes.

  • Reduction of Workers' Compensation costs through incident prevention and remediation.
  • Maintain safety management systems (i.e., adherence to laws, regulations, and policies) for due diligence purposes.
  • Represent company to external auditors and enforcement authorities.
  • Reinforce company values.
  • Maintain positive relations with employees, management, and external enforcement agencies.
  • Promote impact of programs on employee health and productivity.

What You'll Bring:


  • 12 years of general manufacturing experience, or where without local Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) support, 12 years of experience in an OHS role is required.
