The Universal Group has an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Health & Safety Instructor to join our Universal Health and Safety School team.

Reporting to the UHS Operations Manager, the Health and Safety Instructor delivers health and safety related training and drive forward our purpose of providing Peace of Mind to all our stakeholders.


This role offers both new graduates and veterans of the Occupational Health & Safety industry with an opportunity to expand their skillset into an educational capacity We deliver on our purpose through our core values of being passionate, driven, and authentic.

The Role


As an OHS instructor you are expected to plan, organize and teach a wide a multitude of courses including Occupational First Aid (OFA), Traffic Control, Fall protection and more that will aim to equip participants with essential skills for workplace safety in a manner that encourages learning and development through a variety of teaching styles.


Job Duties

  • Conducts training and presentations for first aid as well as health and safety classes
  • Maintains a civil, productive, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
  • Responds to students' comments and/or questions
  • Evaluates student papers, tests or other assessments to the UHS standard
  • Ensures all class files are complete prior to handing in
  • Reviews and update course material as necessary
  • Prepares lesson plans, classes and classroom equipment
  • Ensures classroom tidiness
  • Restocks classroom and equipment

Qualifications

  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Must have the ability to multitask and speak
  • Must have exceptional time management skills and be punctual
  • Must be enthusiastic
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoints
  • Must have a vehicle and Class 7 driver's license
  • Experience in teaching/instructing is considered as an asset
  • A health and safety diploma or provincial instructors' diploma (PIDP) or equivalent health and safety experience is an asset

Working conditions

  • This position may require work outside of a normal office environment.
  • May require occasional weekend hours
  • Travel will be required
