    Water Treatment Facility Operator/Distribution System and Maintenance

    SALARY: $28.10 to $37.87 per hour based on experience and qualifications

    JOB OVERVIEW:
    The Water Treatment Facility and Distribution System demand specific skills, training, and certification, with meticulous attention to detail crucial for the safe and efficient operation of the community water supply. The role requires Monday to Friday availability from 7:30 am to 4 pm, with weekend on-call duties. The Water Treatment Facility is monitored remotely 24/7, 365 days a year, necessitating internet access during weekend on-call shifts.

    This position entails the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment Facility, Distribution System, and all associated community assets. The community Water Treatment Facility holds a Level 3 classification according to EOCP standards, while the Distribution System holds a Level 2 classification.

    As the Water Treatment Facility constitutes just a single facet of the Municipal Maintenance team, the ideal candidate will participate in various other roles, including but not limited to Wastewater Treatment, Heavy Equipment Operation/Mechanics, Maintenance of Company Fleet Vehicles, Road and Street Maintenance, Snow Removal, Park Beautification, and Waste Removal.

    PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Operating, maintaining, inspecting, and monitoring the water treatment and distribution systems
  • Performing various tasks related to the community water infrastructure such as checking Chlorine residuals, Turbidity, PH, Alkalinity, Jar Testing for chemical dosing.
  • Recording flows, hours, chemical usage, dosing rates.
  • Participating in water treatment upgrade projects, inspections, preventive maintenance, repair and overhaul of equipment related to water treatment and distribution systems.
  • Using SCADA system to monitor the water treatment efficiencies.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Certification under the Environmental Operators Program or the ability to obtain.
  • Water Treatment 1,2, or 3.
  • Water Distribution 1 or 2.
  • Chlorine Handling certificate.
  • Class 5 driver's license.
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Ability to inspect, analyze and troubleshoot the operations of water and distribution systems and facilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, understand and convey technical information, and perform job specific math calculations.
  • Heavy Equipment experience will be considered an asset as will heavy equipment/ gas mechanic experience.
  • Post-secondary education in related field will also be considered an asset.
    SKILLS:
  • Excellent communication skills are essential
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with the general public
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
  • Good organization skills
