Division Overview


The Partnership's Cancer Systems, Performance and Innovation Division drives improvements in Canada's cancer system through data, research, economic modelling and innovations such as digital healthcare.

This division monitors emerging health technologies and leverages data systems to determine gaps and opportunities for improvements in cancer care and informs internal partners on innovative approaches, international best practice and compelling evidence to support key partnership decision making.

The division enhances regional integration, with leads located across the country with the mandate of increasing responsiveness to local cancer care needs and opportunities.

This division also leads data collection, analysis and reporting to Canadians on the performance of the cancer system and progress of the Partnership and its partners in delivering on the eight priorities of the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control.


Overview of Role


The Cancer Information Analyst, Analytics is part of the team responsible for data collection (include exploration of novel data linkages), data analysis and reporting of cancer and health data to inform system quality improvement initiatives across Canada.

Reporting to the Manager, Analytics & Data Integration, Biostatistician, the Cancer Information Analyst will provide high quality analytical services to support internal program areas and external partners.

This includes understanding clients' data needs, develops data specifications, collects, audits, analyzes data and develops data visualization to support timely reporting and surveillance of the cancer landscape to drive system change.


Core Responsibilities & Activities
Program Specific Accountabilities

  • Provides analytical support to all portfolios who seek to use health and cancer data to evaluate and report on the Canadian Cancer Control system
  • Leads advanced data analysis works with internal and/or external partners to understand needs, develops data specifications, collects, audits, and analyzes data to support timely reporting and surveillance of the cancer landscape
  • Conducts quantitative analyses using data available at the Statistics Canada Virtual Data Lab including but not limited to surveys and administrative databases (e.g., Canadian Community Health Survey, Census, datasets in the Social Data Linkage Environment, CanCHEC)
  • Works with data providers (e.g., Statistic Canada, Canadian Institute for Health Information, provincial/territorial cancer agencies) to resolve data quality issues
  • Conducts literature reviews, environmental scans, factchecking and other information gathering activities as needed to validate findings
  • Identifies and advises on data limitations, produces results including tables and figures, provides interpretation of results to broad spectrum of audiences
  • Supports the development of reports, infographics and data visualizations, presentations and other knowledge mobilization products to drive system change
  • Collaborates with other teams on the development of performance measure indicators and data collection templates
  • Investigates trends in cancer surveillance incidence, mortality, prevalence, net survival
  • Synthesizes and helps the client to understand the results and to develop actionable strategic recommendations

  • Keeps abreast of trends and best practice within healthcare and cancer control
  • Assists the department, division, program/projects across the organization as needed
  • Performs other duties and ad hoc projects as required
