This position also provides support to the Senior OHS Team/Regional OHS Managers.

The OHS support may include participation in various Senior OHS activities, including providing coaching and support to MLF sites to assist the Regional OHS Managers upon their request.

The OHS Internal Audit Manager may also support the Senior OHS Team with safety and wellness initiatives to develop safer, healthier, and more efficient ways of working.


To fulfill these objectives the OHS Internal Audit Manager must work effectively with internal stakeholders, focusing on ensuring healthy and safe working conditions and comprehensive emergency response plans.

The Senior OHS Team works as a multi-functional team and supports each team member's roles. Each team member will lead a central OHS-related program (e.g., internal audit, occupational health, ergonomics, etc.).

UP ROLE:
_

  • In the absence of a Regional Occupational Health and Safety Manager, the OHS Internal Audit Manager will assist to support their sites.
  • SITE VISITS:_
  • Mandatory site visits when there is a fatality, critical injury, serious incident potential, and significant Ministry of Labour investigation.
  • At minimum, annual site visits for OHS audit.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:


  • Provide advice to the Senior OHS Team to ensure the audit program is consistent with corporate direction.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with site OHS designates to ensure their auditing and followup needs are fully considered and to the extent possible met.
  • Develop the MLF OHS internal audit program and standard in consideration of corporate and site OHS objectives.
  • Present and communicate the MLF OHS internal audit program to the Senior OHS Team and site teams.
  • Plan and scope annual site OHS audits.
  • Execute individual OHS audits according to general audit standards, including risk and root cause analysis.
  • Inform the Senior OHS Team and site OHS designate and site leader/plant manager of any significant issues during the execution of the audits.
  • Prepare individual audit reports according to OHS internal audit standard.
  • Present audit reports to site teams.
  • Present summary reports to the Senior OHS Team of overall audit findings.
  • Track and monitor site implementation of corrective actions that result from audit findings.
  • Perform followup work on individual audit findings and work with the Regional OHS Manager to assess the effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Develop for annual review by the Senior OHS Team the OHS internal audit program for individual audits.
  • Work with the site OHS designate to ensure site leaders/plant managers are informed on a timely basis about audit findings at their site.
  • Working with the Regional OHS Managers, ensure that effective management responses and corrective action plans are developed on a timely basis.
  • Keep the Senior OHS Team updated on internal audit initiatives, compliance requirements, performance targets, and an expectation of continuous improvement.
  • Review OHS internal audit program to ensure the audits performed are effective.
  • Conduct review of audit files as soon as audits are completed.
  • Ensure compliance by teams with all corporate OHS policies, procedures, and standards, as well as site procedures.
  • Maintain twoway working relationship with site teams being audited.
  • Mentor site OHS designates on auditing.
  • Define specific auditingrelated tasks for site OHS designates (e.g., site notification of audit, opening and closing audit meetings, document review, interviews, site tour, etc.), which are required to achieve the desired audit results.
  • Communicate expectations regarding the collaborative relationship with the site teams and Senior OHS Team.

  • Maintain OHS audit management system for due diligence purposes.
  • Reinforce company values.
  • Maintain positive relations with site teams and management during auditing process and followup.
  • Promote impact of OHS internal audit program on overall OHS initiatives, employee health, and productivity.

What You'll Bring:


  • Minimum 1015 years of experience in progressively responsible Occupational Health and Safety roles in a manufacturing or process industry.
  • 810 years of leadership and managerial skills (department and project team management) preferably within a manufacturing or process environment, consistent with company values.
  • Solid understanding of OHS management practices, systems, and approaches.
  • Solid knowledge of process assessment methodologies.
  • Bachelor of Science in Occupational Health and Safety, Certificate or diploma program in Occupational Health and Safety and auditing, or College diploma or university degree in any discipline (with preference to the sciences).
