The Accounting and Financial Analyst plays a pivotal role in understanding the current and future needs of the seniors' living sector, Business Unit and each Home, identifying, tracking, analyzing, preparing and making recommendations for financial performance improvement, corrective action based on operational and financial data analysis, and scenario development.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Director of Accounting/Manager of Financial Systems and Budgets
QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate Degree in Accounting, Finance or Businessrelated field (CPA designation is a plus)
- 3+ years of working experience in financial reporting, accounting and business analysis Working experience in the financial operations of retirement organizations is an asset
- Knowledge of accounting related to a unionized environment is desirable
- Analytic review and problemsolving skills with the ability to make recommendations based upon data analysis
- Selfmotivated, organized, and requires little supervision
- Ability to handle large volume of data
- Excellent computer and technology skills (advanced Excel skills)
- Good communication skills; ability to conduct formal presentations in front of senior executives
KEY FUNCTIONS
Financial Planning and Analysis
- Responsible for producing monthly financial statements, managerial reports and analyses (variance against budget, various reconciliations and thirdparty reports)
- Development of benchmarks, dashboards, strategic planning models, and other analytical tools to facilitate forecasting and analyzing actual results against projections
- Analyzes and monitors current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of revenues and expenses; highlights trends and analyzes causes of unexpected variance
- Participate and leads certain processes to develop the annual operating budgets for multiple entities
- Provides support to the operations department with adhoc requests and data gathering
- Obtains a thorough understanding of budgeting, tracking and reporting tools currently in use and identify improved tools where possible
- Assists with month end close
- Prepares and recommends journal entries for areas of responsibility
- Reviews balance sheet with reconciliation of accounts for accuracy
- Prepares yearend audit schedules and answer questions from external auditors
- Provides backup duties for other Finance Team personnel
