    General Job Information

    Job Summary:

    This position is located in the Department of Parks and Recreation, Parks and Environmental Conservation Division at Camp Riverview. Camp Riverview is 200-acre beautiful oasis located at the confluence of the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. It hosts programs for adults and youth throughout the year and a residential camp for youth ages 8-13 in the summer. Camp Riverview programs seek to provide DC residents the opportunity to connect with nature, participate in human powered activities, and benefit from personal/primary relationships.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Senior Camp Counselors

  • Supervise and manage the overnight and daily activities
  • Works closely with programmatic staff to ensure safety of campers and staff
  • Responsible for all cabin daily programs and activities
  • Engage campers and staff in daily activities
  • Manage Counselors
  • Make sure activities start on time
  • Point person for logistics of activities and support activity coordinators
  • Manage the scheduling of camp activities
  • Create a positive and healthy environment for campers
  • Immediately report suspicious or inappropriate behavior or abuse relating to youth to the Committee Chair(s)
  • Camp Counselors

  • Responsible for the overall supervision and guidance of all assigned campers
  • Stay in the cabin with kids and ensure safety and well-being after lights out
  • Chaperone field trips
  • Plan and implement daily activities
  • Work with campers to support talents, special activities, events
  • Responsible for cabin checks (cleanliness), wake-up
  • Manage behavior and hygiene of campers
  • Immediately report suspicious or inappropriate behavior or abuse relating to youth to Senior Counselors and / or the Committee Chair(s)
  • Camp Support Staff

  • Support all camp activities and programs by assisting in all maintenance duties onsite, including serving meals, cleaning dishes, janitorial work, and maintaining the grounds
  • Act as line Server, prepare serving line, greet and serve campers
  • Keep site clean, safe and functional
  • Set up equipment, water stations, coolers and keep all camp spaces well maintained
  • Selected Support Staff candidates must participate in any training before camp begins.
  • Environmental Coordinator

  • Coordinate all Camp Riverview environmental programs (, Youth Gardening, Geo Caching, Tent Camping, Horseback Riding, Deep Sea Fishing, Hiking, Birds of Prey)
  • Plan and implement daily environmental programming
  • Works closely with programmatic staff to ensure safety of campers and staff
  • Immediately report suspicious or inappropriate behavior or abuse relating to youth to Senior Counselors and / or the Committee Chair(s)
  • Minimum Qualifications/Education/Experience:

    Senior Camp Counselors

  • Minimum age of 21 or older
  • Minimum 3 years of successful camp counseling experience
  • Exceptional logistical, team building, interpersonal, and programmatic skills
  • Experience working with traditionally underserved communities
  • Child Abuse Prevention, CPR and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of employment (will be provided if not already certified)
  • Camp Counselors

  • Minimum age of 21 or older
  • Minimum 2 years of successful camp counseling experience
  • Exceptional childcare, team building, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with traditionally underserved communities
  • Create a positive and healthy environment for youth
  • Child Abuse Prevention, CPR and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of employment (will be provided if not already certified)
  • Camp Support Staff

  • Minimum age of 16 or older
  • Minimum 2 years of support services experience
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task effectively
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Strong time management skills
  • Experience working with traditionally underserved communities
  • Child Abuse Prevention, CPR and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of employment
  • If handling food, must have a food handlers' certification (training will be provided, if not already certified)
  • Physically fit, ability to walk, dance, stand, lift, or meet other physical demands
  • Environmental Coordinator

  • Minimum 2 years of support services experience
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task effectively
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Strong time management skills
  • Experience working with traditionally underserved communities
  • Child Abuse Prevention, CPR and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of employment (provided if not already certified)

    This position is part of the Pathway to Government Employment Partnership Program. District residents who received a high school diploma from the District of Columbia Public Schools or a District public charter school or received a GED or its equivalent from the District of Columbia will receive priority consideration for this entry-level position. Applicants must provide a high school transcript, GED certificate, high school diploma, or other applicable documentation along with verification of District residency before the District government may extend a final offer of employment.

    Position Designation : This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and periodic Criminal Background Checks and Traffic Records Checks (as applicable).
