The Financial Analyst will be responsible for providing accounting support and financial analysis for our Dredging and Dewatering division. This position will be heavily involved in the month-end close process for the Region, adhering to tight timelines. This will include but is not limited to preparing journal entries and various reconciliations and investigating discrepancies. Attention to detail, analytical skills, and being a team player are keys to success for this role.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Prepares various journal entries for monthend close
  • Ensures assigned balance sheets are reconciled monthly, and discrepancies are investigated and corrected
  • Develops strong understanding of the company's chart of accounts and ensures revenue, expenses and balance sheet items are coded correctly
  • On a regular basis, performs tests to ensure expenses are coded correctly by operations in accordance to company standards
  • Coordinates with Operations and Finance to contribute to regular forecasting updates
  • Reviews Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) to ensure correctness
  • Review journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by others, as assigned
  • Prepare audit and special request reports as needed
  • Coordinates capital asset requests as required
  • Ensures intercompany transactions are properly accounted for and reconciled
  • Contributes to the annual budget planning process
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, and ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:


  • Business Degree, with a focus in accounting preferred
  • 35 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Relevant accounting designation or enrolment in program preferred, but not required
  • High degree of proficiency and adaptability to learn new systems
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage both short and longterm accounting projects
  • Prior experience with TRUX, Cognos, Blackline, and Workday systems though not required, would be considered an asset
