Health and Safety Specialist
Full-Time, Permanent

London, Ontario**:

  • Application Deadline: February 21, 2023 **The Health and Safety Specialist will assist in building a strong culture of health and safety within CMHA Thames Valley by working collaboratively with leadership, JHSCs, and staff to implement appropriate health and safety processes at all CMHA Thames Valley sites. This role will also train staff, promote good health & safety practices, lead meetings, and collect and analyze relevant data.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

What you'll be making - $ $25.71 per hour, rate based on proof of comparable, previous experience; mileage between sites reimbursed per kilometre

When you'll work:

  • 70 hours over twoweek period, Monday to Friday 8:30am4:30pm

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

  • Promotes a strong culture of health and safety, including psychological safety in the workplace
  • Ensures organization and staff compliance with all legislative and accreditation requirements for health and safety
  • Promotes, implements and maintains health and safety projects and initiatives, as directed by H&S Manager
  • Works with Human Resources team to update, maintain, and provide health and safety orientation materials
  • Updates, maintains, and ensures health and safety training is completed by all employees on an annual basis
  • Assists Manager with onsite inspections
  • Assists Manager to complete risk assessments (including violence & harassment risk assessments) for each site as required, and liaises with Joint Health and Safety Committees to review assessments, discuss solutions, and follow up on approved changes
  • Works with Manager to review Health & Safety System procedure updates, as required by legislation
  • Assists Manager to analyze Incident/Accident Reports, suggest changes, and then implement approved changes
  • Assists with research and responds to Health and Safety issues
  • Prepares Health and Safety Committee Meeting minutes monthly, distributes as required; as directed by H&S Manager, works with JHSC and leadership to ensure matters are resolved in an appropriate and timely manner
  • Ensures that health and safety bulletin boards are maintained at all sites
  • Ensures that evacuation plans are reviewed and updated annually for each site
  • Coordinates safety and health supplies by ensuring appropriate supplies are identified and purchased in a timely and costeffective manner
  • Develops H&S promotional materials, training modules, as required
  • Conducts specific staff trainings, as directed by Manager
  • Stays uptodate on relevant OHS legislation
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities consistent with role as required

We require the following qualifications:
_*- Post-secondary education in the field of health and safety

  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle to carry out requirements of the role
  • Current, clear Police Check
  • Ability to attend work regularly

We prefer the following qualifications:
_*- Two years of direct health and safety experience

  • Designation in Health and Safety
  • Able to work independently and as part of a group
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure at times, with tight deadlines
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Public speaking / presentation experience
  • Selfstarter work ethic
  • Extensive working knowledge of MS Office Professional and strong computer skills
  • Superior oral and written communication skills and an ability to transmit messages in a variety of forums
  • Proven ability to work with committees and leadership to obtain solutions
  • Proven ability to develop / write policies and procedures
