Position Summary:
The Mental Performance Advisor provides professional counselling services to student athletes on the Varsity Martlet Hockey team. Oversees and supports the mental performance of student athletes.

Guides and supports the building of strategies and development of long-term life skills to aid in overcoming self-doubt, fear of failure and over thinking.

Working under the supervision and guidance of the Lead Mental Performance Advisor, the Mental Performance Advisor will guide the student athletes on the Varsity Martlet Hockey team on managing thoughts and emotions to help them bounce back from mistakes and be relentless in the pursuit of peak performance.

The Mental Performance Advisor will work on programming and service delivery to assist student athletes in but not limited to reducing their performance anxiety and reaching their performance potential, improve confidence, motivation and concentration, mentally plan for training and competitions, set short and long-term goals, recover from injury etc.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Under the general guidance of the Senior Advisor Varsity manager and under the supervision and close collaboration with the Lead Mental Performance Advisor and the Martlet Hockey head coach, this position will support the Varsity Martlet Hockey team.
  • Meet with the Varsity Martlet Hockey team in either through workshop, group meetings or individual sessions as is required.
  • While meeting the overarching objective to teach the individuals and teams the necessary skills to perform consistently.
  • Assist Varsity Martlet Hockey team by reducing performance anxiety, improve concentration and communication, build confidence, and set goals.
  • Along with the coaching staff, assists with the development of the annual goals and objectives for the respective team.
  • Liaises with the Senior Varsity Advisor to ensure that the Women in Sport Program is offering the latest in supportive offerings. Develops and updates presentations to be made within the McGill community.
  • Promotes compliance with the professional ethics for members of the CMPC.
  • Promotes team cohesion.
  • Takes a leadership role in special projects, as required, for the assigned tasks.
  • Follows processes and protocols at the Women in Sport program such as for record keeping, scheduling appointments, etc. Maintains client records in accordance with the guidelines of the professional orders.
  • Plans & conducts group workshops, in areas appropriate to the Women in Sport Program mandate.
  • Performs, other related duties as required.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

PhD in Sport Psychology

CMPC member

  • Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree 3 Years Related Experience /

Annual Salary:
(MPEX Grade 05) $65, $81, $98,240.00
