Under the direction of the Pharmacy Supervisor, Drug Distribution, the Pharmacy Assistant performs tasks related to:

  • Packaging and repackaging of drugs
  • Stocking and restocking of drug supplies within the Department of Pharmacy Services;
  • Supporting Main Dispensary with order receipt, pneumatic tubing and filing
  • Maintaining drugs and equipment in proper order of cleanliness and dating
Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre strategy.

As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.


PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:


  • The packaging and repackaging of drugs including oral solid format, liquids and topical preparations, as well as emergencies drug trays using automated, semiautomated and manual processes as described in Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.
  • The stocking and restocking of drug supplies within the Department of Pharmacy Services.
  • Support Main Dispensary with order receipt, pneumatic tubing and filing
  • Ensures work is quality checked by an authorized individual (Registered Pharmacy technician or pharmacist).
  • Maintains equipment and drug storage locations in good state of cleanliness and order; checks drug expiry dates
  • Completes audits as required for quality assurance purposes

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Completion of or enrollment in a Pharmacy Technician Program curriculum meeting the competencies and outcomes set forth by the
    Canadian Pharmacy Technician Educators Associatio**n
    (CPTEA), the
    National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities** (NAPRA), and the **Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs
    (CCAPP).
  • Work experience in a community or hospital pharmacy practice preferred
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact tactfully with staff, physicians, other hospital staff and other clients
  • Ability to work harmoniously in a team environment
  • Proven ability to perform duties independently, with a high degree of motivation and mínimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check and Vulnerable sector search is required.
