  • Under the direction of the Manager, Partnerships and Policy, the Junior Environmental Professional
  • Policy position works closely with the Environment & Climate Change Team to review, develop and advance policies and partnerships in support of the deliverables in the HalifACT 2050 Plan

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Conducts research and analysis related to environmental and climate policy and provides briefing documents on findings,
  • Supports policy development, evaluation and implementation to deliver on objectives across the Environment and Climate Change department.
  • Researches and create briefing documents on environmental funding streams that support the strategic objectives of the HalifACT 2050 Plan.
  • Liaises with HRM business units to support their business deliverables as outlined in HalifACT 2050,
  • Identifies and advances opportunities to improve understanding and awareness of climate change and environmental priorities with staff, Council and members of the public
  • Assists in the preparation of Regional Council Reports and other public documents.
  • Liaises with environmentrelated stakeholders and other orders of government as needed to support objectives.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:


  • Postsecondary degree in public administration, social science, environment science, engineering, commerce, social science, or other related degree or diploma.
  • 1 year of relevant combined work and volunteer experience.
  • Proficient with computers with strong working knowledge of word processing, spread sheets and databases

Technical/Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability and environmental performance measuring
  • Knowledge of policy analysis and research methodologies and best practices
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulations and acts
  • Knowledge of municipal acts, bylaws, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of environmental science mitigation, adaptation and best management practices for environmental protection
  • Knowledge of software and technology such as Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point), spreadsheets, etc.

WORK STATUS: Permanent, full time
HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm, 35 hours per week
SALARY: NSGEU 222, Level 6, $30.

97 per hour
