    PROJECT AND FINANCIAL ANALYST

    FACULTY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

    The Project and Finance Analyst directly supports the Business Operations Manager and the Faculty of Arts and Science Leadership team with a high level of business acumen, providing advice, expertise, and support by continuously improving the efficient and effective project, procurement, and financial operations within the faculty. This position ensures:

  • Financial, contract and grant management meet all NQC and partner standards; and processes and outputs are continuously improved.
  • Project management of key large projects is efficient; and ensures the project's success through grant/proposal development, finances, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Leadership is provided with timely, accurate and effective advice with respect to preparation and maintenance of the divisional budget for both programs and contracts (expenses, revenue, costing, forecasting, invoicing, procurement requisitions, and time-sheet submissions). This includes responsibilities for ensuring the accuracy of financial analysis and information; conducting necessary budgetary investigations; and resolving other financial, contracting and grant management related business process issues.
  • HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Supports the creation of the division's annual budget and provides oversight on divisional budgets: reviews budget reports, monitors expenses, adjusts full-year forecast amounts, verifies revenue, consults with Chairs and Managers on issues, provides monthly and quarterly reports; provides scenario planning, advises of financial impact.
  • Leads finanical analysis: preparing cash flow forecasts, updating monthly planned data with actual activities and expenditures, providing feedback to the Leadership Team.
  • Prepare analysis of expenditure trends; create forecasts and cash flow and review them for accuracy and completeness.
  • Understands the budgetary impacts of new initiatives, enrollment changes, staff changes, and implements as approved.
  • Identifies program/contract cost pressures and provide recommendations for cost containment/mitigation strategies.
  • Manage divisional procurement and requisitioning and review for account accuracy, available funding, and departmental needs.
  • Accountable for the quality of information and support provided to the FOAS Business Operations Manager, project teams and stakeholders.
  • Coordination of FOAS projects including grant/proposal development, finances, monitoring, and reporting. This may involve financial oversight of projects, submitting regular project updates (internal) and monitoring reports (external).
  • Participate in business planning and setting operational goals/measures for division and unit staff
  • Create budgets for Requests For Proposals, new program development.
  • Liaise with external funders on contract requirements.
  • Establish contract and agreement monitoring through the development process.
  • WHAT YOU BRING

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. CPA would be considered an asset.
  • 3 to 5 years directly related experience in a post-secondary environment, financial services, project management or information management environment.
  • Strong leadership with proven decision making abilities.
  • Experience in a post secondary institution preferred.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to human resource, operations, data and financial management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of financial principles with a strong aptitude with numbers and software. Experience in working with PeopleSoft data (Financial, HR, Student), and Microsoft Suite, (including MS 365, Excel, Teams, BI) would be an asset.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills demonstrating the ability to articulate plans, direction and delegation in a logical and sequential manner, and communicate and summarize complex financial information for key stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact collaboratively and productively with external funders, clients, diverse faculty and staff.
