Purpose:

To serve as a member of the People & Culture team at More Than a Roof, owning responsibility for certain key people & culture initiatives, administering HR operations and ensuring robust HR partnership with various business teams.

To uphold the organizational culture and carry forward the mission, vision and values of More Than A Roof.

Report to:
Sr Director People & Culture

Full Time: 40 hours


Health & Safety

  • Support the implementation and administration of all MTR Health & Safety programs, initiatives, and policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and to meet the needs of MTR
  • Participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committee, attend monthly and work with the JHSC led to ensure that all annual sites inspections and assessments are completed, ensuring compliance.
  • Partner with operation leadership team to ensure program adherence, appropriate escalations, and best practices are designed and executed with Health & Safety in mind
  • Support in responding to general team member inquiries, resolving standard Human Resources issues and liaising with People Services leaders
  • Review MTR Health & Safety policies and create policies where they are needed. Advice MTR Operations teams where they need to create site safety plans and policies.

Training & Development

  • Own up and continue to develop More Than a Roof's Learning Academy. Continue to add resources for the same and identify ways to improve it. Expand learning portfolio.
  • Maintain and update learning records in Payworks/other HR system
  • Develop a wellbuilt new employee onboarding and mentoring program. Ensure follow through of onboarding program, develop metrics and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Assist the organization with the selection and acquisition of external training programs or consultants.
  • Maintain and update all in house educational materials specific to Human Resources including manuals, handbooks, and standardized reports
  • Work with senior HR Director to develop the leadership career tracks and leadership development.

Performance Management

  • Assist with implementing a performance management system including staff and team development programs.
  • Track and roll out performance review reminders and follow calendar.
  • Initiate and follow through on 6 months check in for new staff
  • Follow up and confirm on successful probation completion for new staff.

HR Policies & Procedure

  • Assist with the development and dissemination of Human Resource policies and procedures for the organization.
  • Establish and recommend employee relations best practices to support an inclusive and positive team environment.
  • Participate in and/or conduct reviews or investigations when complaints or grievances are present. Follow progressive disciplinary process where required
  • Address and resolve employee queries and grievances if any on HR policies and procedures in coordination with the HR and leadership teams.
  • MTR Human Resources SharePoint: Develop and design HR SharePoint site for all staff, accessible by all staff. Maintain the site. Include and keep updated all HR policies, procedures, manuals and handbooks on the SharePoint site.
  • Develop understanding of Payworks tool and familiarity and ability to work with other HR online portals.
  • Manage, review and develop the Human Resource sections of the internet including recruitment, culture, and company information.

Employee Relations:


  • Maintain cordial relationships with all staff and establish a weekly schedule of working at other sites of MTR, other than Head Office.
  • Specific focus on relationships with union staff and staff of the healthcare division of MTR
  • Develop good understanding of Collective Bargaining agreement and establish routine of employee relations with healthcare division staff. Establish rapport with HEABC advisors and union reps.
  • Involve in employee concerns, address pain points and work with leadership towards resolution.
  • Involve in annual Employee satisfaction surveys and work on survey feedback.

New Sites Integration

  • Plan HR integration steps for new sites of MTR along with HR team and leadership.
  • Make project plan for HR integrations and follow through on them working with other role holders.
  • Follow HR integration checklist and ensure all actions are completed.
