REMUNERATION
$ $87 625 in conformity with the salary scales set by the Ministry


BOARD REQUIREMENTS
Experience working with adolescents and a wide variety of learners

Bilingual an asset

Knowledge of the QEP and MEES graduation requirements

Understanding of options beyond youth sector (e.g., Adult Education, Vocational Training, Postsecondary programs)

Willingness to assist with student registration and course change process at the school

Ability to offer counselling support to students individually or in groups (e.g., Bereavement, divorce, career awareness, and stress management)

Assist in the coordination of School/School Board events (Open-House, Mini-Day, Career Fair)

Familiarity with responses to critical incidents/traumatic events

Ability to work with individuals/groups

Ability to lead in-service sessions for school staff

Knowledge of the Québec system of education


NATURE OF THE WORK


The position of guidance counsellor encompasses, in particular, responsibility for evaluating, advising, helping, guiding and supporting students in the youth and adult sectors in developing their career plans and in choosing an educational path suited to their personal characteristics.

Characteristic Functions


The guidance counsellor participates in developing and implementing an academic and vocational guidance service that meets the academic and administrative requirements of both the educational institutions and the school board.

He or she evaluates students (individual or group meetings) with respect to their interests, aptitudes, abilities, personality, professional experiences and personal needs, using appropriate methods such as psychometric tests, direct observations and information provided by teachers and other school resources and, where applicable, parents.

RESPONSIBILITIES and TASKS

Working with students, groups of students or parents, help them identify difficulties and support them in exploring solutions

To help defuse crisis or emergency situations and to propose solutions

To collaborate as an active member of a multi-disciplinary school resource team

Provide students with assistance for course selection


To prepare and update files according to the standards associated with the practice of the profession and the rules defined by the school board; he or she prepares progress notes or evaluation, end-of-process and follow-up reports on his or her interventions.

He or she acts as resource person for the guidance-oriented approach, he or she gives advice to school resources, provides them with documentation, suggests activities that enable them to identify variables contributing to the student's personal, academic, and professional progress

Aider à la coordination des événements organisés par l'école ou la commission scolaire (portes ouvertes, mini journées, expo carrières)

Connaître les réactions aux incidents graves et événements traumatisants

Capacité de travailler avec des personnes et des groupes

Capacité de diriger des séances de formation interne pour le personnel des écoles

Preuve de perfectionnement professionnel continu

Connaissance du système d'éducation du Québec


NATURE DU TRAVAIL


L'emploi de conseillère ou conseiller d'orientation comporte plus spécifiquement des fonctions d'aide, d'évaluation, conseil et accompagnement auprès des élèves jeunes et adultes en ce qui a trait au développement de leur carrière et au choix d'un profil de formation adapté à leurs caractéristiques individuelles.
