The Human Resources Advisor, Safety reports directly to the Director of Human Resources and is responsible for supporting the division with all OHS, WorksafeBC and safety matters.

The HR Specialist provides health and safety support to CVIY through policy recommendations, risk assessments, inspections, investigations and return to work coordination.

JOB DUTIES

  • Assisting the Director of HR when and wherever possible with Health and Safety, WSBC and other HR matters.
  • Leading the Division Health and Safety program and making recommendations and updates as required.
  • Ability to visit sites to review OHS compliance and make recommendations to local and Senior Management.
  • Contribute to the identification of, the need for, and development of: OHS policies, procedures, standards, Job Safety Assessments and training.
  • Responding to noncompliance of WSBC and YWCB orders.
  • Submission of all Worksafe BC and YWCB Injury Reports as well as overseeing and conducting and the submission of the necessary investigations pertaining to the workers' injury.
  • Work in consort with Employers' Advisor's Office on all Worksafe BC claim appeals and WCATS.
  • Maintain the Division's Medical Holding List which may require administering medical questionnaires given to employees' to have completed by their family physicians in ref to employment restrictions/limitations.
  • Assist workers/WSBC Case Managers and Occupational Therapists with GRTW programs.
  • Assists workers with the submission of necessary forms for LTD claims.
  • Co-Chair of Health and Safety Committee hold monthly meetings and prepare and submit meeting minutes.
  • Conduct Site Safety Inspections.
  • Implements and enhances process of due diligence.
  • Conduct Bullying and Harassment investigations when directed by Director of HR as necessary.
  • Collaborates with Operations and Training to provide appropriate OHS training for new and existing hires.
  • Follow up with employees on leave to advise on benefit coverage.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Three or more years' experience in OHS, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Experience in the field working with site managers and supervisors to address safety issues.
  • Possession of or working towards Canadian Registered Safety Professional /Certified Professional in Human Resources designation preferred
  • Degree or diploma in a related field preferred
  • Ability to modernize and automate internal processes
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive situations with speed, accuracy, knowledge and tact.
  • Experience dealing with WSBC Compliance Teams.
  • Excellent, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PP, Excel, and Outlook).
  • A strong ability to communicate well and work effectively with members of the divisional staff
  • Valid BC Drivers License and the ability to travel to sites as required
