    Job Summary

    This position is a key role within the Canadian L&H Reserving team. The successful candidate is expected to be an AXIS expert who will own the AXIS valuation model for Canada and lead all development work related to the model.

    This position includes leading modelling projects, whether structural and efficiency/automation oriented, or related to different strategic initiatives. The latter may include (but not limited to) contributing to business performance analytics by running stress testing, supporting different needs of local and group stakeholders, and collaborating with Operations on the implementation of the new hElios administration platform for the purpose of the AXIS valuation model data.

    In particular, this role involves the coordination and review of data extracts, complex treaty AXIS modeling, and model refinements aligned with best practices, while liaising with other key stakeholders including Pricing & Business Development, Operations, and other Group functions.

    Required characteristics include proven strong AXIS knowledge and expertise, actuarial background, including (but not limited to) knowledge of experience / assumptions analysis, valuation of insurance contract liabilities and financial reporting.

    The successful candidate will be innovative and pro-active in identifying, designing and rolling out transformational improvements to the Canadian reserving process. In particular, this role will work to identify new tools and technologies which can be implemented to transform SCOR Canada's modelling and analytical capabilities.

    Also, the successful candidate would be able to clearly communicate results and implications to key stakeholders while possessing an innovative mindset to resolve complex actuarial issues and drive efficiencies to the overall reserving process.

    Key duties and responsibilities

  • Lead AXIS valuation model development:
  • Model maintenance
  • Planning of model changes (based on annual cycle)
  • Implementation of model updates/refinements in development environment and in production environment
  • Implementation of assumption updates in production environment
  • Update of quarterly data extract
  • Supporting of migration to new treaty administration system (hElios)
  • Release management, testing, regression of model changes
  • New business onboarding
  • Documentation
  • Governance
  • Support modelling and testing for other local and group teams (assumptions, strategic topics)
  • Support local and group financial reporting processes (IFRS17, SII)
  • Support modelling related to capital management (stress testing, FCT, ORSA)
  • Manage AXIS Project to optimise model and clear backlog
  • Collaborate with SCOR's Data and Tech community to support process and model optimisation and to identify and implement automation solutions
  • Required experience & competencies

  • Qualified actuary (FSA/FCIA designation with at least 7+ years of relevant working experience within insurance/reinsurance industry)
  • Strong expertise in AXIS modelling
  • Knowledge of Python and database applications (SQL Server, PowerBI, etc.) an asset
  • Sound knowledge of actuarial and financial reporting and experience analytics considered desirable work experience
  • Demonstrated forward-thinking and innovative approach to analyze problems, relate them to the big picture, and recommend well thought-out solutions
  • Well-organized and a self-directed individual who is a team player
  • Demonstrated ability to handle priorities / projects concurrently and be deadline driven
  • Demonstrated innovation and creativity in proposing new ways of working

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills; proven success communicating effectively across different levels within an organization. French language proficiency while not a pre-requisite, will be considered an asset

    Required Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science or related field with demonstrated record of academic excellence
