Position Title:

Carpenter**
Purpose and Objective:Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor and upon receipt of a work order, the carpenter is responsible for but not limited to the repair, maintenance, installation and construction of the interior and exterior of the airport structure and its facilities.

The carpenter with his/her skills in the carpentry trade is required to insure that the airport and its facilities are in a proper state of repair.


Specific Responsibilities:


  • Required to understand, comply and contribute to the policies and procedures including the health and safety policies of Concorde and the Calgary Airport Authority.
  • Ensure compliance with any and all applicable government regulations.
  • Follow established protection safety procedures.
  • Perform repair work in accordance with work orders to the structure of the airport and its facilities to ensure that all buildings are in a proper state of repair. Reads instructions, interprets and assesses work order requests, construction plans, drawings, blueprints and sketches.
  • Constructs, inspects, repairs and installs building elements including but not limited to walls, floors, carpets, stairs, ceilings, insulation, roofing and associated roofing accessories, molding, sidings, windows, safety related signs, floor tape, and doors.
  • Constructs, inspects, repairs and installs board furniture including but not limited to, cabinets, cupboards, desks, shelving and countertops from raw materials.
  • Maintain and repair passenger boarding bridges.
  • Measures, cuts, constructs, alters, repairs, installs, assembles and dismantles, including but not limited to building components and raw materials made of wood, wood substitute, laminates, acrylics, plastics, glass, metal, drywall in accordance with calculated measurements and predetermined specifications. Use appropriate nails, screws, staples, bolts, glue or other adhesives to join said materials.
  • Selects, prepares, operates, maintains and performs minor repairs to hand tools and power tools, stationary machines and other related equipment appropriate for the task, as well as assists and/or trains other staff in their safe and proper use.
  • Ensures work is complete and labor and materials are documented where applicable.
  • Responsible for the daily maintenance and upkeep of any assigned vehicles, ensures the vehicle is kept clean and advises of any mechanical deficiencies.
  • Maintains, monitors and cleans work area, equipment and working environments. Regularly to maintain a safe and hazard free workplace.
  • Instructs and directs carpenter assistants and apprentices if required.
  • Perform any duties or general repairs not specified above as required.

Complete authority to fulfill the responsibilities specified herein, in accordance with Company policies and procedures.


Education:
Minimum Requirements


  • Alberta Journeyman Certificate for Carpentry.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driving License.
  • Sound knowledge of building and construction codes and regulations.

Experience:
Minimum Requirements


  • 2 years' experience working as a Carpenter in a large commercial / industrial facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the "Occupational Health and Safety Act".
  • Initiative, drive and enthusiasm is a must.
  • Ability to solve mathematical problems as well as perform mathematical calculations quickly and accurately to ensure precise construction and economic use of material.
  • Ability to perform measuring, sizing and cutting tasks.
  • Able to interpret and follow work order requests, construction plans, drawings, blueprints and sketches.
  • Good oral and written communication in English.
  • Ability to use rigging hardware, cranes and scaffolding to help erect, level and install building framework.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong manual dexterity.

Mandatory Requirements to Maintain the Position

  • Valid Alberta Journeyman Certificate for Carpentry.
  • Valid Alberta Driver's License
  • Current Transport Canada security clearance
  • Current Airport Authority Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)

Other Requirements

  • Must be physically fit, able to handle heavy load up to 50 lbs.
  • Physically demanding, combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling.
  • Must be able to obtain AVOP, Airside Vehicle Operator's Permit.
  • Must be able to pass all job required trainings.

From $38.75 per hour
