Position Summary:


Under the direction of the Facilities Manager or designate, the incumbent will maintain and repair various components within the building, including mechanical, electrical, and general maintenance, to provide a safe and inviting learning environment.


Responsibilities:


  • Performs routine general maintenance tasks such as installing pictures, bulletin board, changing lamps, washroom fixture and furniture repairs.
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks (inspections, lubrications, belt and filter changes) on various mechanical equipment fans, pumps, valves, heating/cooling coils. Performs routine inspection and maintenance on life safety systems.
  • Assists other trades when required.
  • Ensures cleanliness of Mechanical rooms, Electrical rooms, and other Facilities spaces, which may include removing old equipment and wiring.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on custodial equipment such as replacing brush assemblies, belts and motors.
  • Completes paper work such as work orders, purchasing card processing, placing orders.
  • Assembles furniture, components such as desks, wall units, credenzas.
  • Uses carpentry tools to repair and maintain furniture, storage units, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


Education:


  • Completion of High School diploma is required

Experience:


  • 3 years of related maintenance experience in an industrial or institutional environment. Involving general repairs and maintenance of mechanical, electrical and building equipment and facilities.

Skills

  • Basic computer literacy is required.
  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment with little or no supervision.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills are required to interact effectively with the College's staff, students and the public.
  • General knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS and policies and procedures.

  • A skills assessment test will be administered during the recruitment process.
  • This position requires light to heavy physical effort (Lifting up to 20 kg or 44 lbs).


A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered as equivalent to the above requirements in the event that there are no internal applicants that meet the qualifications as posted.

Equivalency will be assessed by the talent acquisition team.
