Position Summary


Within the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts, the Audio-Visual technician is responsible for a variety of duties to support and respond to audio-visual needs for the Learning Enterprises including meeting and events, hotel, café and restaurant units in addition to academic programs.

This position will support planning and execution of audio-visual needs for event clients, and faculty. The incumbent will make recommendations for audio-visual requirements including lighting, staging, live-streaming, hybrid meetings, microphones and more.

The incumbent will provide front-line service to event clients, staff and faculty by responding to inquiries, conducting consultations, setting up audio-visual equipment and providing support as requested during an event or lesson.

The incumbent will liaise with IT Services and third-party contractors when needed to ensure functionality of audio-visual systems and equipment.

The incumbent will perform diagnostic testing, and coordinate repairs, upgrades and other general maintenance work required. The incumbent will report and maintain records of equipment service requests, and communicate with necessary stakeholders.

The incumbent will be responsible to maintain all audio-visual equipment inventory in an organized manner and make recommendations for purchases or upgrades to the General Manager.

The incumbent is also called upon to provide technical instruction and functional guidance to the College community.


Responsibilities

(60 %) Set-up and operation of audio-visual equipment for events or classroom activities**- Set up, install, and test audiovisual equipment, including sound systems, projectors, microphones, lighting fixtures, and video screens.

  • Configure audiovisual equipment for hybrid meetings, classes and livestreamed events
  • Operate and control audiovisual equipment during events, ensuring optimal sound and visual quality.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot technical issues with audiovisual equipment to minimize downtime during events.
  • Assist in setup and tear down of any requested staging, pipe & drape, lighting, etc.

(20 %) Planning and coordinating

  • Collaborate with event organizers and clients to understand their A/V requirements and provide technical support and recommendations.
  • Participating in event planning meetings to understand client's vision and AV requirements
  • Making recommendations for a seamless event experience
  • Coordinating with thirdparty vendors when necessary to acquire additional equipment or support
  • Coordinate with other event staff, such as event planners, technicians, and performers, to ensure seamless integration of A/V elements into the event program.

(15 %) Equipment inventory control

  • Maintain an inventory of audiovisual equipment, ensuring it is properly stored, organized, and in good working condition.
  • Researching enhancements and new technologies for events and classrooms
  • Stay up to date with emerging audiovisual technologies and industry trends to suggest innovative ideas for enhancing event experiences.

(5 %) Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Experience

  • 2year diploma, or equivalent

Field of Study:
Media Production, Audio and Video Production.

  • 3+ years of experience setting up/operating and dismantling of live audiovisual production
  • Must have existing knowledge of audio, lighting and video equipment
  • Ability to seamlessly and accurately operate audio visual equipment during a live show
  • Valid driver's license with personal vehicle a major asset but not required
