The Interoperability Specialist plays a crucial role in the delivery of patient care by ensuring that different systems talk to each other and share crucial health data seamlessly.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Analyze, design, develop and maintain interfaces using HL7 standards for data interchange between various healthcare information systems
  • Work closely with the technical team and healthcare providers to understand specific data exchange requirements
Troubleshoot and resolve interface-related issues, coordinating with software vendors as necessary

  • Assist in data mapping, translation, and transformation for interoperability using HL7 standards, specifically focusing on message types such as ADT, ORM, ORU, etc.
  • Create and maintain interfacerelated documentation such as specifications, flow diagrams, and interface control documents
  • Implement healthcare interoperability standards like HL7 v2.x, HL7 v3, and FHIR
  • Coordinate and perform indepth tests, including enduser reviews, for modified and new systems
  • Provide technical leadership and support related to interoperability to IT team and healthcare professionals
  • Identify potential risks and proactively recommend solutions to mitigate them

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Healthcare IT, or related field
  • 35 years of experience in healthcare IT with a focus on interoperability
  • Strong understanding of the HL7 messaging standard and proficiency in other interoperability standards like FHIR, DICOM and CDA
Proficient in interface engines like MDLink, Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, or similar tools

  • Strong analytical skills, with an ability to troubleshoot complex interface issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to explain complex systems to nontechnical audiences
  • Knowledge of other healthcare standards and regulations
  • Understanding of EHR systems like Cerner, Meditech, etc.
  • Experience with API development, web services, and data exchange protocols is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven analytical skills with an aptitude for process evaluation and problemsolving.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexible, selfdirected and able to work effectively with mínimal supervision.
  • Consistent and regular attendance required.
  • Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
  • Vaccines (COVID19 and others) are a new hire requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
