Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, carries out duties related to the maintenance, feeding and care of animals according to an established schedule.

Assists with tasks related to breeding and sacrifice.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(i)

Distributes food to animals in established quantities in accordance with a schedule. (ii) Cleans and disinfects pens and cages; washes drinking and feeding troughs and other accessories. (iii) Cleans, brushes, washes, disinfects and shaves animals. (iv) Immediately informs supervisor of any apparent changes in the animals' state of health; takes temperatures as necessary. (v) Assists in the selection of animals for experimental or breeding purposes.

(vi) Assists with certain tasks such as:

anesthesia of animals, taking blood and stool samples, cross-breeding, castration, injections of vitamins or medications, slaughter and cutting up of animals.

(vii) Weighs animals and food. Carries out euthanasia of certain groups of animals according to established procedures. (viii) Receives, stores and delivers food and accessories necessary to the maintenance of animals. As necessary, verifies animals which have been ordered and transports them to the appropriate locations. (ix) Disposes of carcasses and waste according to prescribed procedures. Operates incinerator and ensures its cleanliness. (x) Performs minor work relating to the construction or repair of cages and feeding troughs, etc. (xi) Takes inventory of animals. Assists in the inventory of supplies and equipment. (xii) Completes standard reports. (xiii) Maintains and performs minor repairs of equipment and instruments under area of responsibility. Ensures cleanliness of work area.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma 6 months of related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of animal husbandry and animal health care. Demonstrated ability to lift and carry items weighing approximately 50 lbs. Experience working with multiple species. Demonstrated ability to handle priorities, working efficiently and collaboratively on a tight schedule. Excellent attention to detail. Knowledge of sanitization procedures. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate manual records. Proven ability to clearly transmit and receive information.

Knowledge of French and English:_

Responsabilités et tâches principales:

Informer immédiatement le superviseur de tout changement apparent dans la santé des animaux; prendre leur température au besoin. Aide à la sélection d'animaux à des fins expérimentales ou de reproduction.

Aide à certaines tâches telles que:

l'anesthésie des animaux, la prise d'échantillons de sang et de selles, le croisement, la castration, les injections de vitamines ou de médicaments Peser les animaux et la nourriture.

Effectue l'euthanasie de certains groupes d'animaux selon les procédures établies Recevoir, ranger et distribuer la nourriture et les accessoires nécessaires à l'entretien des animaux.

Vérifier, au besoin, les animaux qui ont été commandés et les transporter aux endroits appropriés. Élimine les carcasses et les déchets conformément aux procédures prescrites. Exploite l'incinérateur et assure sa propreté. Effectuer des travaux mineurs de construction ou de réparation des cages, des auges, etc. Faire l'inventaire des animaux. Participer à l'inventaire des fournitures et du matériel. Rédiger des rapports standard. Effectuer des réparations mineures du matériel et des instruments sous sa responsabilité, et veiller à leur entretien. Assurer la propreté de l'espace de travail.
