Regular Full Time Communications Advisor & Project Coordinator


Reporting to the President & CEO, the Communications Advisor will provide communications strategy, planning and execution to initiatives and high priority projects within the organization.


The principal responsibilities of the role include:

supporting all internal and external communications, media relations and issues management, digital tool (web), social media developing and implementing communications plans to support corporate initiatives, programs or services for the organization, internal and external, writing and editing for diverse audiences, products, and vehicles; providing communications and project management support to defined, time-sensitive projects; and performing other related duties are required.

The role is responsible for managing objectives, of high priority and complexity, and department-specific processes. For key organizational projects, the Project Coordinator will assist with the coordination of internal resources, developing project scope and objectives, developing a detailed project plan, provide oversight for multi-stakeholder projects and support with project documentation, reporting and communication plans


Key Responsibilities/Duties

  • Working closely with the President & CEO, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders, lead the development and implementation of communications strategies that support hospital priorities
  • Develop and implement strategic communication plans
  • Provide issues management/communications advice and support to senior management as required on matters impacting the reputation of the hospital
  • Research and write content (e.g., news releases, key messages, media stories, feature articles, corporate reports, speeches, newsletter copy, staff messages, signage, advertising)
  • Lead hospital branding initiatives ensuring consistency
  • Manage web and social media channels
  • Lead strategic communications for priority community engagement projects
  • Supports with planning, organization and participation at special events, media events or community engagement events
  • Develop and foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders to effectively recommend and deliver communications that support objectives
  • Liaise with hospital leadership to provide strategic communications counsel on messaging, planning and the development of relevant core materials
  • Understand target audiences and assess appropriate communications needs and provide strong recommendations and support
  • Support with project management assistance for significant organizational projects
  • Work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure consistency, demonstrate effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance
  • Protect, support and maintain the Hospital's reputation and mission/vision and values vision and support a culture of continuous improvement
  • Participate in team meetings and/or act as a representative on committees as required
  • Attend events, workshops and other initiatives to promote further understanding of the business area
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Must be able to attend meetings, events and activities outside of regular business hours and some weekends (e.g. meetings, events, emergencies or to meet deadlines
  • Hybrid work environment
  • This position requires work flexible hours, evenings or weekends as required.

Job Qualifications

  • Must provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox) and verification of two COVID19 vaccinations
  • Must provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing within the previous 12 months

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations/marketing or a related field
  • Excellent writing and synthesis skills
  • 5+ years of communications work experience
  • Experience working in the public sector or largescale organization
  • Health care, pharmaceutical or related experience would be an asset
  • Project Management experience, training and/or certification (PMP / PRINCE II or equivalent) an asset

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of strategic communications and stakeholder relations
  • Ability to independently prioritize and manage several competing, complex and evolving projects at the same time
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, writing content for diverse audiences
  • Competencies required in all aspects of strategic communications including planning and management, issues management, content writing, media relations, speech writing, community engagement, event coordination and management and internal/employee communications
  • Experience providing senior leaders with strategic communications advice, counsel and expertise
  • Has a sound understanding of the media landscape locally, regionally and nat
