SD Avionics is a division of Satcom Direct located in Kanata, the high-tech hub of Ottawa, Ontario. Our second largest site globally, this location manufactures avionics hardware, cabin routers, and the SD Plane Simple Antenna System.

JOB SUMMARY:


The Technician is accountable for manufacturing, repair, customer support or engineering operations including assembly, test, RMA activities, debug and configuration elements as defined by the Director of Manufacturing.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Technician will primarily work within a Manufacturing role within the Workshop, providing routine and surge support to RMA activities.

Additionally, the technician may work with manufacturing engineers to support introduction preparation of new product to Manufacturing.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Assembly of electronic and mechanical components in a clean environment.
  • Work in a high paced manufacturing environment, with the ability to work in a team setting to achieve company deliverables and objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within the manufacturing environment and drive new solutions to closure through continual improvement board.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of IPC-A610 and IPC7711/7721 is an asset.
  • Solder electronic components including 0402 passive components and fine pitch active components.
  • Ability to rework BGAs, QFPs and QFNs is an asset.
  • Modification of printed circuit card assemblies with track cuts and jumper wires.
  • Mechanical assembly using basic tools such as torque screw drivers, wrenches, or socket drivers.
  • Review and preparation of technical inputs into documents for manufacturability and serviceability
  • Ability to operate independently,
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex equipment to the system and board level. Detailed fault finding, process improvement and design and execution of testing.
  • Provide training to others.
  • With Training, ability to retrieve relevant product data from SD's Enterprise Resource Planning and Product Lifecycle Management (Arena) systems.
  • Report defective parts to RMA Repair Database
  • Ability to use various test equipment and tools, including, oscilloscopes, DMM's, Logic analyzers, Thermal Chambers, Jtag debug emulators.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic diagrams and schematics.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:


  • Electrical and/or electrical technician College diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience of fault finding and execution in an electronic manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working within a AS9100 quality management system or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of cloudbased tools including ERP, PLM.
  • Demonstrable skills with Microsoft officestyle tools and Linux.
  • Working knowledge of Transport Canada regulatory requirements is an asset.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


While performing general office duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and/or walk around (including the use of stairs).
