As a Protective Services Officer (PSO), you can make a difference at AHS by ensuring a safe and secure environment for all AHS staff, patients, and visitors.

No matter what your role, working with us is about making a difference - every day. As a PSO, you will be the first to respond to and record all security calls and Emergency Codes. Documentation and reporting are a key part of this role. You will utilize an online reporting system to prepare detailed, written documentation of all security and life safety incidents. This position requires a high degree of critical thinking, sound judgement, discretion, and de-escalation techniques. Sound working knowledge of legislation, policy, and legal authorities is a necessary skill.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General.

Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program).

Valid Class 5 (non-GDL)

Driver's Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.)

completed under 4:
45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.


Additional Required Qualifications:


Alberta class 5 operator's license, or a provincial equivalent, with no more than four demerits and no charges or pending suspensions.

Current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services (military, forestry, park ranger, corrections, peace officer). Cadet program experience. Community involvement or volunteering (unpaid positions). Knowledge of or training in harm reduction, anti-racism and Indigenous awareness. Fluent in more than one language. Experienced and comfortable with public speaking.
