Reporting to the Chair, the Department Manager will assume responsibility for the administrative, financial and operational management of the Department of Geography, Geomatics and Environment.

The Department Manager is accountable to the Office of the CAO and primary designates with respect to human resources, financial, information technology, facilities and space planning and management.


Duties will involve effective:
budget and financial management providing proactive advice to the Chair by identifying and planning initiatives to meet current and emerging financial administration); administrative management of academic departmental functions; human resources management including administration of collective agreements, employment policies and protocols; allocation of space; tactical involvement with facilities and procurement, and management of information technology needs.

The incumbent will participate as a representative of the department in broader strategic management initiatives related to business continuity planning and working with the Chair to develop strategic plans for departmental academic programs.


The Department Manager is required to have a strong understanding of the internal workings and policies of the University to effectively manage the day-to-day operations and provide support to senior faculty administrators ensuring administrative practices are in compliance with Collective Agreements, University and Legislated policies and regulations.

The role assumes administrative responsibility in support of the academic and research missions of the Department of Geography, Geomatics and Environment.

The Manager will assist in the development and implementation of proposals for new administrative and academic initiatives, timelines and budgets for projects and, as required, provide managerial support to these projects; facilitates interaction and communication amongst staff and ensures that appropriate resources are provided to administrative support staff.

It is necessary for the Manager to interact with faculty, staff and students in a way that builds a positive departmental culture and to work collaboratively with other departments and offices within UTM and the University.


Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:


University Degree in commerce/business or related discipline with a specialization in accounting; prefer professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA) or in the final stages of certification, and/or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

Notes

HOURS OF WORK:

Monday to Friday 8:45 am to 5:00pm. Evening and weekend work is required.

Work performed at the P/M level will result in regularly working beyond the University's official hours of 36.25 per week.
