The Mel Jr.

& Marty Zajac Foundation was first incorporated in 1987 by Mel Zajac to honour the memory of his two sons who tragically lost their lives.

Since inception, the organization's mandate has been to support innovative community projects focused on developing lifelong skills and independence for individuals from communities facing barriers.

Our primary focus is the incredible Zajac Ranch for Children located in Mission, BC.

In the summer months, The Ranch provides camps for children and young adults with chronic, life-threatening and/or debilitating medical conditions.

These experiences give participants the opportunity to explore the outdoors while developing greater social and environmental awareness, increased self-confidence and positive growth.

Thanks to our generous donors, more than 6,500 campers have built life-changing memories since 2004.


A new position for the organization, The Marketing and Communications Manager/Office Manager plays a key role in assisting the organization to reach its resource development, marketing and communications goals and objectives, while elevating the brand profile and building sound donor relationships to sustain and grow the organization and impact in the community.

This role also performs key administrative functions of Office Manager.

This is a unique opportunity for a creative marketing and communications specialist to employ strong administrative skills to fulfill the role of Office Manager.


Key Responsibilities:


Marketing & Communications

  • Manage the design, production and distribution of marketing collateral in support of fundraising initiatives, public awareness, and Ranch rentals including: newsletters (digital and print), eblasts, direct mail campaigns, crowdsourcing, sponsorship packages, proposals, annual reports, presentations, and event marketing;
  • Optimize public relations opportunities and develop strong media relations;
  • Promote Zajac Camp and Ranch rentals via paid advertisement and PR;
  • Manage social media content and design;
  • Provide support in preparation of sponsorship and major gift proposals, agreements and reports;
  • Update and maintain the Zajac Ranch and Zajac Nights websites;
  • Track and record data i.e. SEO tracking, google analytics etc.;
  • Seek and conduct interviews with stakeholders i.e. campers, camp families, donors to increase public awareness and impact reporting;

Office Manager
The Marketing and Communications Manager/Office Manager is responsible for key administrative functions in support of the Foundation


Duties include:

  • Manage online job postings on community job boards i.e. Indeed;
  • Assist with general camp inquiries;
  • Manage supply inventory and ordering;
  • Monitor and triage general Foundation mailbox;
  • Maintain vendor relations and develop new vendor opportunities;
  • Provide assistance for courier and/or other delivery services;
  • Record team meeting minutes;
  • Other administrative tasks as may be required.

Qualifications and Experience:

The following experience and skills are also important:

  • Three years (minimum) experience as a marketing and/or communications professional;
  • A degree from a reputable education institution with a focus in communications, marketing, public relations, or other relevant discipline;
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills for all media;
  • Working knowledge of Wordpress;
  • Strong computer literacy skills particularly with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro;
  • Strong social media skills;
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Experience managing external relationships with printers, web designers, writers, photographers, graphic designers, and other suppliers;
  • Experience with computer graphic programs an asset;
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to multitask and work under competing priorities and deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders including: donors, clients, board members, program staff, volunteers; sensitivity to working with people from diverse and vulnerable communities;
  • Ability to handle confidential material with discretion;
  • Comfortable interviewing program participants and translating their stories;
