WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
KPC Power is looking for an experienced
HEALTH & SAFETY SUPERVISOR for our growing business.


The Health and Safety Supervisor is responsible for managing the administration of the Corporate Safety Program, ensuring that the right tools, equipment, policies, procedures and programs are in place to assist employees at all levels to work safely.

Works directly with site teams to enforce legislative requirements and requirements under KPC's registration to the COR Standard.


Responsibilities:


  • Continuously monitor the H&S Program against trends, new industry practices, legislative changes, business changes and exposure changes to ensure that the program stays current and continues to evolve
  • Assess training requirements and delivers the training or sources the appropriate external training provider
  • Work with the project teams to develop site specific safety plans for each project and provides the necessary tools and training to ensure that these programs are in place and running effectively
  • Monitor the H&S programs at each site to ensure consistency with KPC and client procedures and the sitespecific plan, where applicable
  • Establish/Chair/Monitor Joint Health and Safety Committee through selection process of field representation and scheduled meetings
  • Work with the site teams to assist subtrades and suppliers to address gaps in their safety programs
  • Follow up on Third party inspections (MOL, ESA, Utilities) to ensure that specific requirements have been met
  • Lead the investigation of all accidents/incidents and near misses, including preparing all reports, gathering information, working with the Ministry of Labour and third party consultants; reporting to Senior Management on the status and taking direction as required
  • Develop and implement safety communications including Tool Box Talks, Bulletins etc.
  • Work with management to address safety violations through the disciplinary process
  • Monitor and analyze site accidents and hazards to identify trends that may provide opportunities for training or improvements to current processes
  • Develop statistical reporting on accident trends, costs and frequency
  • Represent KPC on various external safety committees
  • Ensure that all medical aids and lost time injuries are reported to WSIB within appropriate time frames and that complete/correct information is provided
  • Liaise with the WSIB once claim is established to ensure that necessary information is supplied to them on an ongoing basis in order to effectively manage the claim
  • Liaise with the President and Director of Operations to determine which claims should be appealed

Educational requirements:


  • Postsecondary certificate, diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety preferred
  • Canadian Registered Safety Practitioner Designation

Experience:


  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working with Safety Programs in a technical environment (e.g., manufacturing, mining, construction)

Skills:


  • Thorough knowledge of all related safety and employment legislation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong construction site and safety knowledge
  • Experience with MS OFFICE including WORD, Excel and PowerPoint

Working Conditions:


  • Construction site environment
  • Frequent travel to job sites for safety inspections, meetings, training, and other Safety services
