About the role:


As part of our energetic and talented Customer Care team, you will make a difference by leading our Retiree Affinity Group initiative throughout the Alberta Capital Region to drive support through volunteering, corporate philanthropy, sponsorship, and special events.

This position will also identify, cultivate, and solicit new support for Women United throughout our region.

In this exciting new role, you will grow and retain membership for the Retiree Affinity Initiative.

This position will also lead meetings and relationship building /networking efforts at campaign and community events throughout the year ensuring key Decision-Making Unit (DMU) members, volunteers, and donors are properly engaged, supported, recognized and connected to UW team members across the organization.


The Day to Day and beyond

  • Supports the development and implementation of strategies to attract, retain and grow Retiree Affinity Group members.
  • Participates in meetings with potential and prospective Donors; this includes preparation and research on donor's background and aligned United Way initiatives.
  • Collaborates with Customer Care colleagues to support and integrate Retiree component/offering into workplace campaigns and individual giving to increase engagement with existing and prospective donors.
  • Participates in donor stewardship, including planning and preparation for donor stewardship events related to learning, networking, and volunteering, and compiling information on the programs or initiatives donors are interested in or have designated funding to.
  • Collaborates with Product Development and Marketing teams to develop marketing and communication materials designed to grow membership and develop and maintain Retiree Affinity Group initiatives.
  • Attends United Way/Retiree Affinity Group events, and workplace campaign events in support of United Way, this includes presenting to attendees and stakeholders.
  • Writes and/or reviews proposals for support, stewardship materials, other collateral materials.
  • Creates and maintain accurate and complete action notes into the CRM after donor meetings and interactions.
  • Uses metrics to develop new strategies, inform event planning, set goals, develop projections, troubleshoot issues, and adjust existing strategies as required.
  • Develops and recruits a Retiree Affinity Group Cabinet
  • Supports the work of the Retiree Affinity Group Cabinet, including the development of Terms of Reference and Role Profiles annually, in collaboration with the Portfolio Manager, Volunteer Engagement.
  • Supports the development of annual Cabinet plans including preparation for meetings, ongoing recruitment and/or retention of members, and preparation for Cabinet Member meetings with current and potential donors.

You are known for demonstrating accountability and striving for operational excellence.


Your background includes a post-secondary degree in business administration, social sciences or a related area plus a minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of related experience.

A combination of education and lived experience will be considered.

A valid driver's license and vehicle are required as some travel will be involved within Edmonton and the surrounding area.
